The "what do you do" thread.

It's times like these, I realise I've basically wasted a lot of my life, dicking about and getting hammered.

I work in a call centre. I did ok at College. (2 B's and a C in my A levels) - but I never went to Uni as I couldn't be arsed. 

I have an easy job that pays the bills. All customer service, no sales and when I go home, that's it. No problems to take home. I suppose it's how I need it.

Respect to those who do other stuff. My mum is a support worker, sister helps kids with disabilities, I have mates who are Doctors / Nurses and other more meaningful jobs than mine.

Massive respect.

I work on projects for a local autism charity. Currently most of my time is spent recruiting volunteers to run social groups for adults and doing any other work involved with the running of the groups. 

It's a job that I love and is relevant to me as I have autism and so do members of my family.

Never too late to change to something you find more fulfilling mate.

Must of been some yawn/stretch, would love to help your neck, hope we bump into each other, will be asking everyone I speak to if they post here so it's likely, just so you know self massage is very beneficial, even though it doesn't have the same nice feeling like when someone else is doing it the effect is still good.

No idea how I managed it! It's just a bit sore in the mornings, once I'm up and about it seems to ease off, I'll try that myself and hopefully it's gone.

I used to be in sales and management roles for a big business services company, now have the luxury of doing exactly what I want, keep myself busy with stacks of volunteering work, for other smaller festivals as a photographer, Macmillans, RSPB, school governor, and plenty more...

Building Manager - sort out back of house stuff for the landlord of my building in Kingston upon Thames and deal with parking, refuse collections, maintenance and cleaning contracts - all the glamorous stuff!

Pros: No work to take home, 8-4 Monday to Friday, discount at our restaurants (we have 5 soon to be 6)

Cons: stress, on call for fire alarm, contractors are w*nkers, having to worry about health and safety

you help other people with their problems so you're doing a good service too. 

Big respect to you as well, a friend of mine works in customer service and she tells me how nasty a few people can be down the phone. It's not something a lot of people could deal with

I'm a trainer and teacher. In my day job I'm an IT trainer (currently on a publishing system, but have an interview tomorrow for a much more interesting role...) I also tutor geography part time for an online school that works with homeschooled children all around the world, and teach at some holiday revision courses.

Exactly the same as @FuzzyDunlop, I do customer service in a call centre.

After health problems a few years ago I took the decision to give up on the idea of a career and just work part time, earning only enough to scrape by and intent on consuming less needless crap.  I'm mentally and physically better off as a result.

Getting made redundant from corporate life and setting up my own business was the best thing that happened to me. Different type of pressure but not having to listen to hot air from greasy pole climbers in meetings, no suit to put on and n "working for the man" is great. Even better has been having the flexibility to spend a lot of time with my kids as they have grown up, rather than a quick hello/goodbye in morning then a kiss on their heads whilst they slept at night.

I'm a Taught Courses Officer at Nottingham Uni. Fairly dull in comparison to some of you lot but it's a great environment to work in, pays pretty well and it's very relaxed/friendly.

Im a supervisor in a supermarket and have been for 20 years , would love a change that would mean I use my creative skills a bit more , rather than dealing with rude customers who think you are stupid , but hey never mind 2 weeks off very soon

I work in an investment bank, doing admin. Left university in 2014 with a  1st, but took me so long just to get the job I have now (which pays OK, but I hate it, I'm just a cog in a huge corporate wheel)

Would like to move to London and get a real rewarding job. But being young, with little experience puts me at the bottom of the pile!

Spent 6 years after University working any old job to pay the bills and get the debts down, decided to go back to College at night at the ripe old age of 27 and retrain to be a Graphic Designer. Graduated and got a job, now been doing that for almost 4 years. Love it, only 1 week in those 4 years has ever dragged....this one!!
