firstly make sure your footwear is waterproof be it boots of wellies

after that just embrace the weather, the second you let the r*** get to you that's the moment it wins

you have to become one with it, there is something incredibly joyous about looking the clouds right in the Nimbus while you dance in the mud with a grin on your face and a pint in your hand

Can anyone suggest a decent poncho?

I got a US army style one on the recommendation of a kind eFester last year. A bit more heavyweight than the disposable ones (obviously), but it feels like it'll last forever!

Speak for yourself :-)  my ex wife got completely w*nkered and I had to prop her up through U2 and then carry her home to Worthy View!!!

Fair play to you.  That was about the shittest night at Glastonbury I've experienced weather wise and I'd have not liked trecking up to Worthy View, let alone dragging a semi-comatose lady into the bargain.

In 30 years experience, Shorts no jeans as it wont be cold, short wellies (good ones neoprene lined for comfort) and a top quality waterproof but thin coat, 2nd hand Paramo? and a waterproof hat and you can handle anything. Oh and something to sit on unless you want to walk / stand for 20 hours.  Waterproofing the tent also worth doing, take a can and do it there and camp wisely thinking about its angle and how it might handle heavy rain.  Saying that, last year on that day it rained hard I couldn't be arsed going back to the car for my gear so I drank whiskey till I fell over instead.

Take a whole roll of binbags.

pack your clothes in them so they don't get wet in your rucksack even before you start, or get wet in your tent after you start.

you can also put clothes that get completely soaked through in them so the wet muddyness doesn't get everywhere.

You can stand on one as you enter your tent, and leave your muddy boots on one.

Take one with you each day to use as something to sit on. It's big enough to allow you a bit of time off your feet in the less swamp like patches of ground, and small enough to just tie to your waistband and not be a mucky pain to carry.

they also have a lot of uses for emergency tent repair, or wellie/boot liners

....but mostly - whilst you are out and about accept that you are going to get wet and muddy. If you spend a wet muddy Glastonbury trying not to get wet and muddy, you will still get wet and muddy, but will also be pissed off and miserable. Accept being muddy but don't actually seek it out as a goal.

The 'wear less and care less' is priceless.

alcohol is your friend - carry a warm spirit and go for mulled wine and  hot spicy cider from the bars.

...and socks - twice as many as you think you could possibly need.

positive attitude & alcohol.

Positive attitude is absolutely the most powerful weapon against the brown stuff that must not be named.

If you're mind tells you it's shit, for you it will be shit and you may as well pack up and go home.  Keep a smile on your face, irish up your coffee, and power on through.

I got the same one in black

Only thing I would say is that it's got a couple of squares of stitching on the chest. Only small, but there are comments that you can get a slight leak here. I've dabbed a bit of seam sealing glue stuff that I had already on them, so should be fully waterproof.

In a brown year there comes at least one moment where you hit the wall and your sense of humour totally fails.  Rant to yourself in a longdrop (wash your hands!), pour another drink and carry on.  It's a waste of money and energy to go and be miserable.  It can be a real struggle to defy the weather but, as Calvin's dad would say, it's definitely character building. ;)

Make sure you pitch the tent properly, especially the porch door because whem that collapses in a downpour, you might be swimming in to your tent.

Wateproof poncho, emergency ponchos, decent footwear and a cider in hand.

And dont complain if the worse should happen, yeah its a bit shit when you cant sit down but you're at the best festival in the world so you wouldn't have it any other way :)

If the weather is all over the shop I carry a cotton "scarf" (2m x 1m).  If it rains/cold it acts as another layer under the poncho and keeps the heat in, stops water running down your neck.  If it's too sunny/hot, acts as shade/towel/dust barrier or you soak it in water to evaporate and keep you cool.....

keep a dry warm set of comfy clothes either in your car or at the lock up if you are getting the coach. you can change in to them on your way back. If it is a mud fest and raining constantly you will have gone through all your dry clothes and it is nice to have some joggers and a jumper to change in to and dry trainers for the journey home

This is excellent advice, my friend had to go home wearing a bin liner in 07.
