Bizarre and entertaining in a 'complete lack of perspective' kinda way.

I know, it's like the board is not itself today... or it is completely itself.

I've been drinking, but this thread has has me in stitches.

Jessie J is a staggeringly self absorbed turd of a human being, with about 1.5 good pop songs to her name, and that's adding up all the scraps of good bits from songs before she ruins with them a load of incoherent shouting. And I like a lot of her contemporaries, not saying this as a 40 year old Radiohead lover.

To sub Adele if you want a similar act it's going to be tricky. Alicia Keys, Sam Smith, John Legend all spring to mind. But the bookers will worry about having a total bore fest up top, so I guess the best thing is to book something totally different. Hopefully it's Kendrick. I'd die if it Missy Eliot, but I doubt that  the bookers arw taking the same approach most posters here seem to be taking and assuming that we need someone else with a vagina to sub Adele.

Based on Adele personal choice, it would be Frank Ocean, which would be stunning. I hope it's not fucking faithless. I'd guess Bastille are the  most likely.

Ellie Goulding is much more musically like Coldplay. Demographic wise Adele, Coldplay and Ellie Goulding have a huge amount of overlap, I doubt theres that much in it.

I always find these threads kind of odd. I don't think the organisers think it through half as much as people seem to think they do. The notion of a "sub-headliner" and even the phrase "sub" has something that's seemed to develop on these boards over the past five years or so (I swear these discussions weren't happening back in the 00s in the same way).

The notion that special attention is paid to the top two bands, then the rest of the stage is just booked in and structured accordingly... whereas everything I've seen suggests that special attention is paid to the headliner (because they have to close the show, and for the Pyramid there's a weight of expectation) and all the rest, including the act playing before the headliner, is just booked in and structured accordingly. Obvious there are occasional exceptions (Weller coming as a package deal last year) but I don't think much attention is generally given to what 'sub' sets up a given headliner. Especially as tech requirements tend to make the sub to headliner switchover the largest wait-time of the day, so there's a huge amount of crowd movement.

Same as no-one really talks about who is "subbing" John Peel (ahem) or Acoustic. It's starting to happen for Other now, but again, wasn't a thing of discussion even a few years ago.

Not that it's not fun to have the discussion, just think you'd get more accurate predictions trying to figure the 5th, 6th and 7th biggest name acts that might play. I'd imagine the availability or preference of the band and crew is a far, far bigger determiner of what day a given 'sub' plays than what act they'd set up best.

I'm pretty sure it's been said on here before that the organisers do consider who makes a "sub". Depending on who's headlining and what the other stages have on, they often either like putting two very different acts on to turn over the crowd more, or they like putting two acts on as a "package". This certainly seems to fit with other years.

But evidence shows that organisers HAVE to put effort into thinking about subs in the event that they bump them to headline (like 2015). I also think that they do put just as much effort into the order of acts lower down - I can easily see discussions breaking out about who should play fifth or fourth in relation to each other etc. frankly, I've been known to use the term "sub sub" before to describe the act third down - I really don't think it's just an emphasis on the top two, nor on pyramid/other exclusively. I'd easily talk about who "subs" WH or The Park etc. I referred to Jamie XX's slot as "subbing" last year..... But hey, maybe I'm just an enthusiast of the idea of the sub.... that may be the case actually.

Well to be perfectly honest with you, you must have something wrong with you to think Jessie J is better than Radiohead

Or the person is allowed their own opinion.

If you dont like Radiohead then you don't and it's quite probable that someone who you don't mind you will think is better....regardless of who it is.

Wind your neck in and get the fuck over it!

#Thunderthumb won Celebrity Pointless tonight, btw. Surfing on a crest of a wave of pointlessness all the way from the IOW to the Pyramid.

'Lessons in love' was the first song on the radio this morning. The stars are aligning!

Then why when everyone else was voicing their opinion he was throwing c bombs left right and centre?

He is posting videos and giving his opinion...and what? If he doesn't think In Rainbows was any goos then he doesn't. The rest of you are so full of it whenever it comes Radiohead potential so why shouldn't he be?

I'd go and watch Jessie J over Radiohead as well.....because I prefer the person. I'm not a big fan at all but I'll certainly be moving from the Pyramid if they are subbing Adele and coming back rather than enduring it.

    • Was volunteering at the Women’s Cricket World Cup at Southampton yesterday. Was great fun.
    • Definitely see this as being 'weak' on paper but could see a few bumps up from previous sets at Download (Don Broco, Neck Deep etc).
    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
