Where are your preferred after hours areas?

A few times last year I made the effort to see a dj, only either be met by a huge crush, or very low sound levels. 

The two worst areas seemed to be the blues (thursday and saturday) and the outdoor areas in block 9.

So where do people head in the evenings to hear some decent music away from the crushes?

I actually found Block 9 to be the least crowded out of all of the naughty corner. Shangri - La was unfortunately horrifically busy when I went and I wanted to get out as soon as I got in there.

Had a fantastic night on Wednesday dipping in and out of the stages at Green Futures and ended up being sat at the Mandala Tent which is a place that I plan on spending alot of time in in the evening this year. I just loved how chilled out it was in there and it felt like such a relaxed chilled out space away from all the chaos of the naughty corner and dance village areas.

Also had a quality night on the Saturday at the circus fields watching some fire shows and a bizzare avant garde theatre act on in the astrolabe. Babylon Uprising was great also.

A friend of mine recommended Glasto Latino from last year so am looking forward to checking that out in more detail this year. I actually thought Arcadia was ok now it has it's own field, managed to get fairly central without too much fuss on saturday night.

I really like Shangri-la and Unfairground but they were just so busy we basically got out as soon as we could.

Circus and cabaret fields are good bet for the early part of the err...morning

I also found the bars in the general site quite good value. Admittedly they are not open all night but the likes of Bread and Roses, the Chameleon Bar and others can keep you amused with decent djs and silent discos etc until around 2ish.

Yeah I loved Mandala last year too, and Small World opposite. Like the whole muddled feel to them and the other venues in that area - reminds me of the old festival.

The Beat Hotel, despite appearances, is generally pretty spacious near the front. Sound is pretty good too. I'm sure a lot of people will agree with me about NYC Downlow, my favourite place for sure.

I like NYC Downlow, it's not my favourite place in the SE corner, that probably goes to The Temple with the right act

I like the Fluffy Rock Cafe. I had a nice sit down there last year while some band or other entertained the crowds. 

A nice sit down is always a good thing at 1 AM or whenever it was.

Arcadia was a big draw for me last year

We had a great night in Williams Green last year at the Club de Fromage, followed by a band on at the Sensations stage (?) in the Glebe and then a little bar in the Glebe that was playing Indie until about 3am (from memory)

Found another tiny bar in the Greenfields one night and played table football with randoms for shots until the early hours

copper dollar, thats my recomendation too , its bizarre and I managed to eventually figure out how to get into the secret shed last year !! although my atrocious dancing on one of the podiums was probably my friends highlight that mummy dancing and the face painting is good too

Yes!! Arcadia is masterful. But loved going to random campfires if I don't feel in a hectic mood, great places to chill and meet new people.

The 'naughty corner' is good but can get really busy at times, most nights last year my lot went over to the other side of the site, Arcadia/Park area. There's loads of places to go in the park, the silent disco and all the bars, and then right next to it is Arcadia, and then if you feel like it, it's only a short stroll up to the top of the hill to look at the view of the site at night.

Also, last year I remember right on the edge of the Arcadia field backing onto the Park there being a little chilled out area with small fire pits and candles and stuff where people would sit around the campfires and have a chatter, that was a pretty nice little area.

As a first-timer last year I've got to say Shangri La was the best experience I had. I went there on Sunday night after Flylo finished on West Holts and it was insane. Experiencing it all for the first time before the crowds hit was incredible and I was just drunkenly stumbling from place to place in a state of total bewilderment. Amazing. I didn't get to a lot of other sections though - aiming to hit more of them this year.

Do decent and reasonably priced cocktails to, but lets keep it between us =p

 

I thought Arcadia was the best of the DJ spots last year actually, seemed slightly less crowded than usual and they seemed to change the speaker system, so you can hear it without being in the circle.

If you are looking for something different though, the sensation seekers acts has a whole range of very good cabaret style acts! Just next to the entrance to the SE Corner! I ended up spending a couple of hours there Saturday night. Ended with Wheel of Four Tunes, which was basically a few guys dressed up as power rangers, getting the audience to spin a wheel to decide what genre to DJ a few songs to.

Block 9 is increasingly becoming my favourite.

Got to Genosys at about 12 to check out Prosumer last year (i think..) didn't move much for the next 6 hours, wasn't too busy till around 3ish.

Four Tet was excellent.

I may have seen that, I don't remember what was going on on stage but I remember seeing a guy in a morph suit/power ranger outfit shouting down the microphone "If any of you have any drugs, now's the fucking time to take them!" and then playing Smack My Bitch Up...

In fact one year the WBC kept some of the main bars open 24 hours at the weekend at Glastonbury but there was not as much demand as was expected and it was never repeated - it may work for small bars but large bars can only operate with a certain staffing level and the sales just did not stack up.
