I think Adele is pretty much the biggest artist in the world today, I'm not sure Beyonce could claim that at that time. 

Also Adele is British which is obviously a factor even if they were on the same level

It's hard to judge. I'd guess Adele is bigger in the UK now than Beyonce was in 2011. Worldwide it may be a different issue. Certainly does show there's precedent for having a huge artist who doesn't really fit the typical headliner mould playing as a sub headliner.

APPARENTLY that was the case, and she did sub Coldplay at TITP that same year so it's not impossible, but she did seem like a pretty huge sub at the time. Adele is bigger though, yeah. Album broke numerous records and her fame is somewhat of a phenomenon

That Adele album is everywhere now. Number 1 in 4,628 countries*. She is without doubt the biggest artist in the world right now.

*That feels about right.

I didn't say she wasn't. The question was is she bigger than Beyonce was in 2011. She's clearly the biggest in the world right now, and probably bigger than Beyonce was in 2011. Although Beyonce was huge for a longer, more sustained period.

I think she's bigger than Beyonce c. 2011, but probably the same as Beyonce 2013-14 or similar. 

As for Adele, I actually don't think she's signed up. I reckon she'd be the sort to want massive controls over the condition she sings in, hence a lot of repetition in the same venues, no outdoor gigs (ever?) and I can't imagine a festival would provide that. Even if she got a Stones-esque build up time to sort the whole thing out. She 100% wouldn't take an early slot due to the quick changeover time, in my opinion anyway. 

When there were rumours of her doing the Superbowl with Coldplay (outdoor gig, limited set up time), I was coming around to the fact she'd headline. But I'm not sure she will to be honest. 

EDIT: So, to summarise, Radiohead are going to smash it.

According to Wiki, Adele has sold more albums in the US than Beyonce... and I'm guessing she has released less albums than Beyonce? Based on this, I'd say Adele is certainly bigger worldwide in terms of sales.... Having said that, I'd say Beyonce is overwhelmingly bigger in terms of glitz, glamour and celebrity.

All that said... Adele and Beyonce can kiss my swingers!!!

My info (tho I can't guarantee it's correct) is that Radiohead changed what they were planning to do to do something else instead. The most likely option seems to be Glastonbury, perhaps (probably, even) because a headline slot opened up that they were able to fill.

Separately, I've been told they're playing Glastonbury this year by the same guy who told me they'd be playing a secret set on the park whichever year that was (and i have a feeling he's given me other bits over the years too).

So to me that's saying they're much more likely to be playing than not. Tho I could be wrong, of course.

Much more likely to be playing than not, this doesn't mean headlining. I wouldn't get any hopes up for a headline slot btw. My bet is that they'll be playing but not headlining

They did last time they played.

But I guess you mean if they were actually announced officially beforehand?

I can see still see some form of co-headline deal. Possibly Muse and Adele on the same day or something like that. The idea being that Adele doesn't want the pressure of playing last in the traditional headline slot.

What with Neil's little tidbit and now the 'three British bands' info, that's gotta be Radiohead (along with Muse) looking incredibly likely to be the remaining headliners? Unless they've managed to sneak somebody like the Roses in I just can't think who else it could be, proving the info is right of course

If that info coming from the metro is right, it can't be anyone else other than Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay surely
