Radiohead touring in 2016

Like others here I have listened to this a few times now through headphones and it certainly seems to me to be the best way - it sounds incredible with so much depth.

Will be listening again on the way home tonight. Not sure I can pick out individual tracks - it seems like one of those albums that you need to devour whole to get the full effect. But then I guess you can say that about other Radiohead albums too.

Still hoping that I might get a Roundhouse ticket somewhere - there were some onsale last week but I didn't take the plunge...now I have heard the album I regret that decision massively.

Or, of course, fingers crossed they make an appearance at the farm....

I'm listening to it for the third time on iplayer, (I want my own copy now! But I want a physical one so have to wait). I love every track. I can't fault any of them. Ful Stop is really standing out to me though. Love that menacing bassline. Groovy track this.

Question: can the people losing their minds over this record (nice/surprising as the record is, folks) give an example of the last record to have this impact...

What I'm interested to hear is that is this record converting new fans at all? I really liked the Bends and **loved** the show I saw in '97. Bar a couple of  tunes since then (Reckoner, especially) ive been less captivated.

Headphones are all well and good, but I found last night that it works even better loud, through a proper hi-fi setup, in a dark room, lying on the floor with eyes shut while drinking whisky.

Hard to say, but In Rainbows and OK Computer had a similar impact on release.  Despite Kid A's current status, I remember it taking people a while to really get it.

EDIT: Actually, I think this is getting a stronger reaction than In Rainbows.

I think I own about 6 white 12"s and every single one has some sort of imperfection

OK Computer got an even stronger response. They were a popular band prior to this of course, but that release catapulted them to the level of fanatical support they have now.

I would agree that it appears this is getting a better reaction than In Rainbows. Think the pricing structure of that record overshadowed the music a bit on that...

Yeah.  I'd agree with all of that actually.  Having said that, the reaction to those three are in a different league to all the others.

My Defones - Gore on White Vinyl has a slight grey blemish on it - I think it makes it look quite cool.

Opposite for me, I'm a recent, well not exactly convert, but having listened to their more uhhh.. experimental stuff, I like it a lot more than the early albums. Fascinating band, properly interesting. I don't love them, wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I tell you, for a big mainstream, headlining band, they're something else.

I really really like Kid A and Amnesiac, and think In Rainbows is a strong album. This new one is pretty good too. The rest of their stuff, nah, not for me. But as a huge band who are still releasing genuinely challenging music, fair fucks to them. Proof that massively popular doesn't have to mean bland. One of the few bands who are headliner sized that I'm interested in seeing

They are always surprising, though not necessarily in a good way for everyone.  In Rainbows, this and HTTT have all been albums I've found accessible, but their more experimental work (which has a lot of favour round these parts) has often left me cold, with some albums taking years to appreciate.

Mardy puts it well, there aren't many acts of this size out there still making music that is relevant, that grabs mass attention and that sounds as fresh as ever.  All too often you see that Coldplay/Muse syndrome of a good debut, great follow up and then inevitable downward spiral into mediocrity/not knowing when to quit.

Have you listened to Hail To The Thief much? It's got some fairly out there stuff on it.

more to what Wooderson was saying about the release of 'Ok Computer' I think the hype for that record was out there before it was released. it seems like i recall reading countless tidbits (Q mag perhaps) about how this was going to be the record of the decade, etc....all before it had come out. that hype lived up i think, and that hype surrounding the band's overall potential (esp for some of us who despised 'Creep'  - or maybe that song's popularity amongst some - but loved some of their other stuff) was one of the reasons they seemingly got the Glasto headline spot in '97....they were a popular band off of "the bends" but even in the lessor stature of headliners in the mid-90's, i was a bit surprised that they were announced as headlining, but that's a nod to being recognized by the festival for what they were to become...they didn't seem to be as 'big' as Winwood, Neil Young, Prodigy, Smashing Pumpkins at that time, or even as big as Cure, Stone Roses, Oasis booking of '95

I think the Kid A and Kid B releases right after Ok Computer were master strokes. OK Computer came up, lots of people loved it, and even the one-album-a-year types were starting to like the band or saying they were as it seemed 'cool' to say they liked 'OK Computer' and fortunately they were thrown off the scent by the next 2 records (and the 3.5 year gap, after previously releasing albums every 2 years)

must say the new record is making me forget that the PJ Harvey release is just a few weeks old....that one hasn't grown on me unfortunately, and i know there's likely huge crossover on here between those 2

The thought of Street Spirit with a string section backing them has just made me go a little tingly.
