Radiohead touring in 2016

I can't see them subbing Adele with all this stuff floating about them only really wanting to play in the dark? If their set does get announced with the rest of the line up then that will make for a very stress free weekend but then again imagine a radiohead set at 4am in the corner...

Yeah I think the light / dark thing is a bit of a sticking point too. They've moved their Iceland show to an indoor venue as it's still light outside (being Iceland and all...) so I can't imagine they'd do an "incomplete" show at Glasto in the evening.

Since the reveal of James, maybe EE has decided to announce all the secret slots that aren't DJ sets at night in order to avoid disappointment. So following on from last year, I imagine she might have had complaints from people who were big fans of The Libertines/The Charlatans so instead she is going to announce James as "opening the festival" instead of Charlatans and possibly Radiohead as the "special guests".

I'm leaning towards us getting a secret set somewhere, but not the full band, just Jonny and Thom perhaps like the park a few years back

I don't think there is much to the whole 'darkness' thing personally. They moved the Iceland gig indoors sure, but in Iceland it's broad daylight until midnight or whatever :P When you're headlining a fairly small festival in Iceland, and you're Radiohead, you get to make certain demands. I just can't see them turning down a huge slot at Glastonbury just because it wouldn't be dark for all their set. I think that would be fairly low down on their list of concerns.

The bigger issue is whether or not the band is actually bothered about playing the main stage at Glastonbury anymore. It's entirely possibly they've just decided playing such a huge festival isn't for them. But if they do want to play and are offered a sub headline slot, I don't think they would turn it down because of the darkness issue. There would be bigger reasons for them to turn it down.

I am insane thinking this could be a possibility:

Adele is the headliner, Radiohead play after.

Prime time BBC for Adele, Radiohead kill it after

sounds good until I remember that would mean having to miss new order

no thanks :D

if Adele is headlining as has been announced then she won't be on after Radiohead, even though that order would obviously make more sense than the other way around for various reasons. IF this Radiohead thing happens then they'll more likely be on before her, or elsewhere on the lineup

Wasn't it the case that Roger Walters was seen as the headliner but on before Rod Stewart was on after?

Radiohead will not sub at any British festival. I think they'd rather give up and as they're pretty much still top of their game, why should they. A secret set maybe, a headline at Glastonbury or elsewhere next year probably but sub? Id give better odds on Prince!

I just find it difficult to see Radiohead subbing. Not necessarily because of their ego, but because it's hard to see how they'd do themselves justice with both the length of the set, the stage set up etc etc. Park Stage was different, it was a given they'd be a bit rusty, it was on a smaller stage, not on TV, unannounced and not in the middle of a tour. I'll have mixed feelings if they do play this set, I'll go and see them because it's Radiohead but the whole thing will seem a bit anti climactic.

Down the front will be a mix of people waiting for Adele and actual genuine Radiohead fans which will also be disappointing. Most of the people down the front of the Park Stage gig were genuinely big Radiohead fans at least.

What if Thom and the lads run on first, roll out a few bangers and then invite Adele onstage to duet on Paranoid Android and The Gloaming.

Then Thom and the lads run off the Pyramid Stage while Adele does a solo set.

Then, once Adele runs off, Thom and the lads run back on to finish the set in triumphant style with Anyone Can Play Guitar, Treefingers and Scatterbrain.

Boom. Everyone wins.

I`ll guess 11am on Saturday or Sunday in the new JP Tent / area. Got to put it on the map....so to speak.

Putting the 'Head up against the Bishop of Bath and Wells over on the Pyramid will be good for splitting the crowds I suppose.

That's a very valid point. But I doubt it's something EE and arguably Radiohead would be too worried about.

However regarding your other points, I think if they do play before Adele they wouldn't be treated as any old sub headliner. I reckon they would be billed as special guests and be given a slightly longer set than most subs (keeping in mind some subs have had 1 hr 15 mins before, so 1 hr 20 or even 90 minutes might not be out of the question). It's wishful thinking for sure, but we have rumours suggesting they will be on the bill, so where else do they fit in? Neil suggesting the latest info he's had means they probably won't play a secret set really limits the possibilities.

Are Glastonbury festival goers really so bothered about Adelle? I dare say many of them would watch her but not because they are big fans. More due to the fact she's there and shes a big act.

Surely Readiohead would pull an even large crowd?

When is the actual line up out?

yeah tbh, if Radiohead did play before Adele, a fair few of the crowd would be your usual Pyramid dwellers just waiting for the headliner, but you can be sure that an equally large portion would be Radiohead fans fucking stoked about them finally returning to the Pyramid. i doubt they'd get a muted reception or anything of the sort. not sure about a larger crowd than Adele - you're underestimating her appeal there - but they'd pull a good crowd in their own right

lineup should, we hope, be out in the next few weeks. could drop at any time from now really

Reckon Adele will get a monster of a crowd to be honest, think Muse will be the smallest crowd of the weekend.

I would've thought Radiohead would be very much bothered by the prospect of half of the crowd immediately in front of them being disinterested Adele fans.

Mate, it's Radiohead. There's still going to be a lot of Radiohead fans there if they play. You're also assuming there's zero crossover between Radiohead and Adele.

i just can't see Radiohead playing anywhere close to Adele either before or after, the crowd movement would just be too much

there is some crossover between Radiohead and Adele fans (including me) but i don't think it would be safe to put one on after the other

it would make much more sense to put Radiohead on before Muse, lets face it we all know the masses aren't going to be flocking to Muse so you'd only have people leaving the field after Radiohead

    • To be fair @Superscally barely mentions the running thing. Very quiet about it 😘
    • I guess we'll just have to wait until videos of the shows go up, but the fact that the standing is also greyed out still suggests to me that those sections just sold out out before the others and a blue block just be like 3 tickets left, it's still not concrete proof they never went on sale and if they were never on sale why would they not make it even, if 414 wasn't on sale then you'd think 409 wouldn't be either
    • Selfish, but I've done the 2 days I'm there.. i'll try to do the rest through the day but might get beaten to it as it's editable....    https://clashfinder.com/s/ape2026/
    • I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
    • And all (or all but one) of the secret sets repeats though?
