I know this is the second time today I've pushed this theory but is there a chance that because of the (apparent) competition for places this year someone like Ellie G could find themselves 3rd down the bill?

I'd say easily yes. Ed Sheeran played third down in 2014, don't think Ellie Goulding is much bigger than him then?

Again - might just be the fact that I'm out of touch, but I would have thought her subbing was pretty weak?

In 2014 she subbed the Other Stage - since then the singles from her new album came in at 5, 54, 51 and 20. So not great - although she had a number one last year fror the Fity Shades soundtrack (thanks Wiki!)

Either way - last year there was Alt-J third down on Pyramid, James Bay 6th down... the year before Lana Del Rey 4th down.

I'd have thought her size is similar to these rather than a subbing spot?

You're right, she definitely not worthy of subbing and she's not as big as Sheeran. Stick her on Sunday after ELO

Sheeran had only released 1 album when he was booked for that slot (his 2nd was released a few days before Glastonbury), Ellie Goulding has 3 no.1 albums now. Goulding is bigger now than he was when he would have been booked for 3rd down. by the time of G14, and probably in the summer after it, Sheeran was bigger and probably sub size.

didnt emily say females are in prime spots this year (or something similar)?

I'd say ellie goulding is the most likely of anyone around to get such a slot, especially now that we know pj harvey is banished to the other stage.

she said pretty much the same sort of thing last year too iirc, it didn't seem to make that much of an difference to the line up in the end

And you could argue, Adele headlining, PJ high on other, Haim being talked about as a possible JP header plus Ellie being say 3rd is enough for the statement to be correct.

Certainly agree with the Ellie Goulding suggestion, I don't think she's big enough for sub. But again the prominent slot thing is in the back of my mind

i'd say arena tours, 3 no.1 albums and quite a mainstream appeal (plays X-Factor, chat shows etc.) make her prime sub material.

bigger than plenty of previous subs anyway.

it's part of the first (I think) bits of info i've had from this source so I've no way to rate how accurate the info might be via that, tho other things about the source and what they've said makes me have a lot of trust in it.

So Foals, Ellie Goulding and another to sub then in your reckoning?

Are we still debating whether Ellie would sub or not! Jesus!

Good luck ol'Reading on your day sales in particular....they've absolutely bollocks'd it this year!

Could playing Glastonbury not actually help too? Big TV slot, R&L still 2 months after Glastonbury too do not exactly a short space of time.

    • I'm 59. It's not so much the music as the camping/late night chaos I've grown out of at R+L. If I was still local to Leeds I might still be persuaded for a day ticket if the lineup was to my taste.
