I cant deny it. I came away from a MGMT gig thinking they'd revolutionised music and would be headlining the pyramid within 2 years as well.

Agreed, went and saw them on the John Peel when they was being all mysterious and that and thought they was excellent. Listening to them at home, it all a bit meh.

Whenever I've seen them, its always been about the crowd carrying them in a sing song, rather than the band making it great. They do what they do, but none of them ever seem like "performers".

That may or may not be the case, but that's nothing of what I was on about.

It was girls screaming simply because Brandon was on the stage in front of them. Proper teeny-girls-screaming-at-their-idol stuff.

To be fair it wasn't anything like as bad as what i've experienced when photoing other acts (Daniel Beddingfield at Guilfest comes to mind), but it was still that screaming thing and it sticks in my mind because it was the first time I'd encountered it when I wasn't expecting it (which I was for Beddingfield).

Does he get to enjoy the actual festival more now that Emily has taken on more of the day to day running of things?  It certainly seems like it with reports of him singing in the Acoustic Tent with the Moody Blues and dancing in Glastino Latino with glowsticks on the same night this year.

I really think you should ask him about the headliners. This thread is overdue a shake up, and we are in desperate need of another classic Eavis quote that turns out to be bollocks (Chris Martin supergroup anyone?), but which we can still endlessly speculate over during the coming months.

It's tradition.

If you combined the respective first halves of Hot Fuss and Sam's Town into one album it'd have been regarded as one of the stone-cold classics of our time but the quality dropped off so drastically in the second half, in both cases, that they were always held back a bit. They were still playing a sold out Wembley Stadium nine years after their peak so must have done something right.

that slew of huge singles from their first two albums has cemented their place as headliners/stadium fillers for the foreseeable future. everything since has been pretty poor in comparison, but as long as they keep filling their sets with said singles then people won't really care. some bands, especially ones that play such safe music, just continue to stay huge

Disagree on Hot Fuss at least, but I don't think there are many songs worse than Mr Brightside - my friend stopped subjecting me to them after Hot Fuss.

I saw them in a fairly small venue in Liverpool back in the day, front row and everything. The NME reviewed it and mentioned mine and my friends antics at the gig so we felt like minor celebrities.

I don't own any of those albums, I've never listened to a Radiohead album all the way through, but from time spent on the internet I can rattle off a point-scoring Radiohead top 10. Kid A's the best one, so you knock it down at 3 to be edgy, The King Of Limbs is the boring one, so you put it at 2 to show you're a highly intellectual bastard who is well into whatever weighty concepts it's allegedly dealing with. OK Computer is, like, the underdog so that's your favourite to show you're a proper fan. Pablo Honey has vulgar choruses that oiks like, and that single that is fit for radio play, disgusting piece of work that can fuck off to the bottom.

But what do I know? I too have never heard a full album all the way through, despite owning the bends on cd that I picked up for fuck all in that's entertainment. Keep meaning to give it a spin but never got round to it. 

In Rainbows was the return to form album - probably on par with both OK Computer and Kid A, really, but doesn't quite have that classic status

and you should be ashamed. although imo The Bends hasn't aged very well (many would disagree) so it might sound a bit naff on first listen these days
