There could be numerous factors. Certain drugs often have an influence. Music policy, too. The area organiser/promoter can steer the experience in a certain direction if they want. Location could be a factor. Throw those all into the mix and you get a less enjoyable vibe for some

dont remember a bad vibe when it was further toward pyramid ...possibly just the latest 2 versions

It's been the same feeling since the Beat Hotel. When people say the vibe is off, it's not a feeling of danger or anything. Just noticeably different to somewhere like The Common or The Glade in full flow. @nikkic probably nails it with their suggestion that a large percentage of the clientele's drug of choice is the key factor, which is less euphoric and tuned-in to the music

It's also very much a meeting place for a lot of people.

Daniel Avery confirming his appearances ...

Thursday - in the sticks

Friday - Glade with Imogen

Sat - SRemo with KLO

Glastonbury heads, we meet again this year. I’ll be playing three times across the weekend
On Thursday 27th June I’ll be performing my ambient live set as part of our Quantum Sound experience, as ever joining Tim Wheater and @cherub.sanson. On the Friday I’ll be going b2b with the new hero of underground techno @imogenrd at The Glade and on the Saturday night I’ll be playing b2b with old friend @kellyleeowens at San Remo, shockingly the first time we’ve done this. See you in those glorious fields x

Gah!

I'm so torn about that Friday set with IMOGEN. I think I have to be there, as he's great when he plays b2b, and IMOGEN has been on the really need to see list for ages.

It's all shaping up, team. We just need the ABC of Glastonbury raving now...

Pre beat hotel mind you the music was different . Although guardian lounge may have been similar

Although it was broadly the same location, Guardian Lounge was a (very) different thing run by different people.

It's been unwelcoming since the spot was handed over to Beat Hotel in 2011, and it's been the same vibe / same crew ever since.

Doesn't this depend on the DJ playing to a certain extent? I only ever went into Beats Hotel when Greg Wilson was playing (2 years in a row) but the vibe was always really nice at those times.

Yeah, I think there's something in that, and also the time of day. I'm not a daytime dancer, but on the couple of occasions I've pooped in there in the day for half an hour or so, it's been 'nicer'.

Maybe this is causing the funny looks and attitude you're getting.....

Ben

Think it's becoming a bit clearer why the vibe is pretty poor in there! 😉

Perfectly summarised, Ben. Hard to criticise the lineup but as a general experience it's a real outlier within the festival.

I can't quite put my finger on exactly why it feels so different. The closest experience I liken it to is some of my less enjoyable club experiences in London. Just a bit "moody" or up-tight, I suppose. I love the concept, but for my liking, the vibe is off and it would take a stellar act to get me back in there for any length of time, which is a shame. I wonder if they moved it to Silver Hayes or the SEC it would feel different? Like you say Ben, it's my problem, not theirs. It's clearly hugely successful in its current location/format.

Actually, I've always thought there's scope for a non-electronica late-night space along that stretch.

Magaluf vibes.

I agree, the lineups are always solid but it's always rammed as well as the aforementioned points. I'm disappointed Avalon Emmerson is in there.

Did anyone on here go to Overmono at the Love Inn in Bristol last night? Desperate to know what their new tunes are sounding like

I did! Was great fun. DJ set up rather than full live gig. Started slow and ended up with drum and bass. Some old school beautiful trancey tracks - always find the evolution of their songs so impressive. Really cool Radiohead Street Spirit remix. One extremely heavy, snarly almost dubstep influenced track. They're leaning more and more heavily on trap and rap samples which went down well with the kids, but left me slightly cold!

Thanks, sounds like a pretty varied set. Hope you had a good time!

Have to agree with others, always feels much more “towny” than other venues on the site. Each to their own though, good for the people who enjoy it, and plenty of other options for those who don’t.
