Ello there

Well, I really shouldn't blow too much in case said artists roll over to next year. They never even got to announce plans! And all the concerns about crowd flow and sound levels had really been taken to heart. We'll see that come to fruition in 2021 thankfully.

But if you throw names, I could maybe say yay or nay from what I can remember...

How good is/was Shanti Celeste going to be closing out the whole show on IICON 😪😪

Hadn't heard that, but it might have been a replacement for a major Saturday night techno act on IICON who was struggling to get over the line.

Could have been on Genosys mind. She would have torn it up

Well thank you very much, @Ddiamondd 😡

I now have the singularly unshakeable, and utterly rapturous, image of Helena H playing Genosys 0200-0400h with me in a state of transcendental bliss. And nothing I can do about it!!

There was a female DJ even more exciting than that in for 1am Sunday, in a bloke sandwich – overall, one of the best runs I could want right now. A triptych that would have torn the place apart.

Was this a certain Doctor?

Were Bicep anywhere..? They were pretty much confirmed but thought they'd be on the park but not on playlist. What's "the concerns about crowd flow and sound levels" What's this about? Cheers for your info it's always appreciated.

I'd always hoped someone like Sasha and/ OR Digweed could have made the respectable big name step up to IICON.

I'm just not a streamer of sets. For me, it's all about the whole package of being there, on the floor, with good people, shared experience.

However, for those that way inclined - which in non-COVID time I would be, obviously! - Charlotte de Witte and Enrico Sangiuliano are streaming live B2B at 6pm BST on Thursday (7 May).

I should link it, but I haven't got one here when I suddenly thought to post!

Those who want to will find it! Links are on Enrico's Twitter and no doubt plenty elsewhere.

Oh to be able to dance to those two in the real world again. Soon, team, soon...

Take care and stay safe

Ben

Edit - felt lazy:

Very impressive compilation from Syrphe (all their comps are fascinating)

"It includes 32 artists and bands from 24 African countries and the diaspora... including abstract but also beat-oriented music such as ambient, electronica, electroacoustic, noise, singeli, bass music, industrial hip hop, etc."

Yeah, saw that @gherring8

I'd have had a lot of fun at that if it had been 'real'.

Been wanting to see Anna, Lucy and Truncate for ages.

A few years ago 'Lucy' was announced for Silver Hayes. I clicked the link and was taken to his RA page. Explored some stuff, and he became an absolute must-see at the festival for me. I contacted him to say how excited I was about him playing.

Very politely, he advised me that there must be some mix-up (despite the hyperlink to his RA page...), as he was not playing Glastonbury, much as he'd like to.

The actual Lucy, who has played every festival since, is...erm...not my kind of thing.

Amongst my mates and me she has since been (and I suspect forever will be) known as 'WrongLucy' 😩

Love Anna - have you heard her remix of Singularity? (Why am I asking this, when I know you almost certainly have?)

Absolute belter.

Anyone got any good suggestions for ambient mixes? I'm trying to write my thesis and not go insane with boredom.

    • exactly. give them mordor slot when I have other alternatives, not Wednesday
    • Absolutely love her record, System. Definitely an album that rewards a bit of commitment.   She's right on my must-see list. Hoping she's in the Walled Garden, as I think her sound might be a bit muddy if she's early-ish in Far Out.   Ben
    • Same here, I kept trying to go on A View From My Seat to see if each block was worth it. So vague!
    • Ok, I’ve had time to process the experience now, so here is my review.   The good Barcelona - what a beautiful place! What lovely people! The city was like another headliner. Stayed in El Poblenou, and the bars, cafes and restaurants were perfect. Avalanches - Absolutely spectacular, euphoric set. Fantastic stage. Possibly enhanced by substances that I timed right, for a change. Added bonus that I don’t really remember the queue. The Cure - I’ve been a fan for 34 years, and never got round to seeing them, so this was a dream come true. The XX - The sound was exceptional. The lights and setlist perfect, giving each member their moment. Was really loud where I was standing (between the front and the sound desk), but i didn’t notice any chatters - even during the quieter moments. Also loved Men I Trust, .bd. , Big Thief, NewDad and Gorillaz. The food within Parc Del Fòrum was also a lot better than I was expecting.   The bad People talking non-stop throughout some of the sets, and shouting to be heard over the music. I had to move 3 times during Wet Leg just to be able to hear the band over the crowd. It’s probably an age thing, but I just don’t understand it. You’ve paid how much to watch these acts, and now you’re standing with your back to the stage, missing the music and ruining the experience for everyone else? Odd behaviour.   The weather apocalypse on Thursday. I genuinely thought I would be able to tough it out. I couldn’t. Left after Geese. The lack of communication from Primavera didn’t help.   Whilst it was lovely to be by the sea, and the sunsets were very pretty, the site is a bit…concrete-y, isn’t it? I kind of longed for some grass and trees. Often found ourselves standing on the steps by the Adidas yard by some bamboo. This was probably a subconscious need for some nature. The fact that some of the nature included cockroaches did not negatively affect the experience.   My daughter, for running away when she saw the drug dogs in the queue on Thursday, meaning that I lost her for the whole evening. She hid her stash under a bench, and it miraculously survived the storms.   Also, can someone explain the point in having a wristband, when you still have to show your ticket every time you enter and leave the site?   Finally, I would like to nominate myself as one of the bad things about this year’s Primabera. I should have done Primavera a lot better. It was my first one, so I’m still learning, but I think I left too early on the Thursday. Left after the Cure on Friday, so I would be full of energy on Saturday, and then barely made it to the end of Gorillaz anyway, meaning I missed Overmono, Skrillex, Skullcrusher, Kneecap, and a few more I would have liked to see.   All in all Amazing lineup. Decent food options. Cupra and Cupra Pulse stages were very impressive. Weather was perfect for 3 out of the 4 days i attended.   It was always likely to be a ‘one and done’ for me, but we had a blast, even if I am starting to get too old for all this.
