Aren't The White Stripes just the same as every other band Jack White creates though?

did you ever see the White Stripes?

There was just something about those two on stage that made it the most awesome music for me, they really did dominate my teenage years when i properly started listening to music.

The White Stripes - garage rock, punk and blues rock.

The Raconteurs - blues rock, folk rock, Americana and bluegrass (at times)

The Dead Weather - hard blues rock and garage rock.

Similar but each band has it's own identity.

i guarantee you that most people who'd consider themselves in any way fans of music know Purple Rain, Kiss, I Would Die 4 U, When Doves Cry, Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette, I Wanna Be Your Lover, 1999, Let's Go Crazy... the list is endless.

Here we go, the classic 'you're not a fan of music if you don't like Prince'... Prince fans drastically overestimate how far reaching Prince's music actually is.

Not saying he won't so calm your jets...just saying if your not a fan then you likely know purple rain and not much else, Chillout,

That was based on the 'one hit wonder' quote. Just think it's a silly thing to say as he's had (just looked) 21 top 20 singles in this country alone.

*Edit. 21.

didn't say that, did i? said that his back catalogue is widely known to most (that being the key word here) music fans. i knew most of his 'hits' before i'd even knowingly listened to them

If Prince does play, I'd guess it's unlikely he'll let the BBC broadcast his set. He keeps a very close eye on any distribution of his live performances, even getting YouTube to remove anything shot unofficially at his gigs. He believes live music should be experienced in person, not on a screen.

I've seen him twice (80s and 90s) and both times rank among the best I've ever seen. As long as he doesn't go too far off-piste on one of his funk jams, he'll nail it.

Which he would probably go through in a 10 minute medley.

what are the chances of a very hushed up smiths reunion? Morrisey and marr both active musically.....how do they get along these days?

zero, ever. they're pretty much the only split up band who i can say will never ever reform. there's just too much nasty history there, and Morrissey's a right stubborn git (who also doesn't need to reform the Smiths - he's got a damn good thing going with his solo output)

Having a huge music test I can quite happily listen to anything from screaming Jay Hawkins to radiohead, nicky blackmarket to system of a down however Prince just stands out as an all time great, and it can't be an age thing as I'm 31

I'm no prince fan but I know 7 of these. I'd be pretty shocked if others didn't

I know two actually, not one... *shrug* are you shocked?

Edit: I mean, don't get me wrong, I do believe he's massive... but I also believe there's a lot of people who are just 'meh' about his stuff, really.

Does it get better than Purple Rain? I'm always tempted to delve into his back catalogue because of the high praise on here but I really dislike Purple Rain yet it seems to be his most popular song

I'd say his music covers different genres so there's something for most people in there somewhere. But Its also something that prevents me from being a big fan. Can't stand some of the stuff

Oi,you lot!

When did it become ok to start bandying P*****'s name around willy nilly? You know he's a sensitive flower to all this new-age social media stuff. He probably thinks the Eavis' own this fourm and are just using his name again to generate publicity for their little garden fete.

Stop it. Stop it now. If there is any truth at all in this purple rumour, you b*st*rds can't go and ruin it now at this late stage.

I've been listening to Prince since around the turn of the year. I went for it and bought a load of albums and don't regret a single one. I've still got a lot more to get too. D.M.S.R is probably one of my favourite tracks by anyone, can't stop playing that.

    • wombats have been doing that and selling quite well, couple of really strong support acts could make it work.
    • Yes. September still a very long away, keep the faith.
    • With Di Artze doing Nova Rock next year, if Foos are there too I think that puts pay to SOAD. I would think they would get SOAD if they could rather than Di Arte again 3 years later.
