Unless they have made it seem like Florence was a back up and never the first option .. To avoid backlash?

If people think they tried for Prince but fell through last minute, then Florence was promoted to headliner, people would accept this and it would ease the pressure on her?

but Emily brought up Florence herself in the interview - she didn't need to, at all, and it's quite weird that she did in the first place. if this was the case i don't think she'd even mention her - why draw attention to a possible headliner name like that?

Is this the first year that Neil hasn't got at least one of the headliners down as TBC before announcement? I have faith in the gaffer to reveal the last one before announcement in April, Worthy HQ wont beat him to the punch on it a third time.

As far as I can remember, yep, it's the first time since '98 I've not got at least one in advance.

And i don't think I will do either.

Bit different but I see where you're coming from....

florence is headlining in my mind, amongst the backlash - I knew her being 'ruled out' was too fishy when this is genuinely the perfect time for her to play. Would not be surprised if (at the time) Emily thought she would not be headlining and they'd get prince - but her giggles on the radio, her "I haven't got the call" - her laughter when fans have brought it up to her... It all fits

I put whatever is left of my reputation on the line and say that florence will headline this year - and neil will have to do his bowing down as he promised! The only reason I have been suggesting others for the past few weeks is because of Neil's certainty! But now there's a crack in that it's gotta be!

If not, 10 quid to water-aid. I'l do it!

Seriously, just stop talking.

"Florence is actually our last resort because everybody else pulled out" is not a nice thing to say about your headliner, and not a nice way to promote your festival. "We've booked Florence because she puts on a great show and has a long history with the festival and IS a headliner" would be what they'd say, telling people she's there because they couldn't get Prince would do the opposite of avoid backlash.

I can't deal with this jumping from person to person - it's killing me! Do we have any actual information that makes any of the rumoured people (Roses, Madonna, Taylor Swift, P*****, Flo) more likely than any of the others? Or are we just piggybacking off a thought or a statement from one person and just pinning hopes on that? I'm getting very swayed by some people's convictions and I can't really establish whether these are based on anything.

Help meeeeeeee.

Apart from blind optimism!

and Big Vern's little bit of info, but that's it really!

Neil has some info suggesting it's Prince. not a lot, and he hasn't told us what some of it is, but it's something, and probably more than any of the rest

Scroobius podcast with RDB

Says he's tried for squiggle a few times and knows he likes to book things last minute. States problem is that could leave him without a headliner.

Then says he already knows the Prince story for this year, and he doesn't think it involves any UK festivals.

I never understood why Florence's only UK festival appearance would be a sub at Glastonbury? Especially in a year when she had an album to promote. Granted a Pyramid sub is fairly big .. But not huge. Headlining would make much more sense ... But then why not just announce it? .... Why this wait?

To be honest I don't even want to find out who it is anymore! I'm enjoying this convincing myself that its a different act every day!

Bearing in mind it's Sunday and there's the local daytripper crowd, Prince would be a more logical headliner. Though given this thread, logic has long since gone out of the window.

Can't believe I'm even thinking about Prince. Every bloody year we do this.

I know you obviously have issues with the Roses, but I'd say they'd be far more suited to a Sunday night sing-along than Prince. I mean how many Prince song does your average, casual music fan know? 3 or 4 at most?

Opposed to the average music fan who knows more than Fool's Gold?
