98 was soul destroying after 97. I distinctly remember sitting in our (very small) tent with a friend, listening to the rain lashing down, and really wondering if I could do it all over again. We really had to psyche ourselves up to leave the tent. We did though. It was bad, but not as bad as 97, if I remember rightly.

This.

I hear a lot about 97, 05 and 07 but not much about 98.

Can someone give me an overview?

I didnt mind it to be honest. Muddy on the choke points. Entrances to areas. Can remember alot if drizzle..bit blurry though as i was hammered most of the time. But didnt find it too bad. We had more mud in our tent area in 2011

Friday - constant, drizzling rain until about 6pm, when it seemed like the world ended for fifteen minutes the rain was so mental. 05 esque flooding in Pennards.

Friday was pretty much the hardest day I've ever done at Glastonbury.

Ditto

Mine was one of the tents that got flooded in Pennards that day....oh how I learned

I remember the day ending by watching Portishead headline Jazzworld in quite torrential rain...bloody amazing but I was a broken man!

Good to see you back GWW!!

So someone reassure me are we at worse looking at 2011 again?

I'd say it won't be as bad as that, but to be on the safe side yeah. Depends which way the forecast swings over the next couple of days, but the forecast of rain on Thurs/Fri/Sat could cause 2011-esque conditions I suppose.

Sorry I didn't word that well, I mean at very worst it will be 2011 again, like we are not going to get a total wash out at this point?

Yeah exactly - also a reason for my optimism this year. It would be ideal if we could get a few more hot/sunny days before it all kicks off.

Yep, I sacked the evening off halfway through U2 and called it a night. Seems sacrilegious...

I came sooo close to that....i remember standing near the Glade and my mate suggesting we could 'just pop back to the tents', both of us knowing we'd end up too comfortable to move again, I was actually wondering if that was it, had the Glastonbury bubble finally after all these years popped.....went he followed up that suggestion with....'or we could have a couple of these?'

Balance was restored.

Thursday - constant, drizzling rain. Muddy

Friday - constant, drizzling rain until about 6pm, when it seemed like the world ended for fifteen minutes the rain was so mental. 05 esque flooding in Pennards. Serious discussion about whether festival could continue IIRC

Sat / Sun - sun and clouds, odd shower, site as you would expect

Friday was pretty much the hardest day I've ever done at Glastonbury.

Same here. The Friday evening was mental, it just pissed down like I've never seen. Can't attach link but look on YouTube for foo fighters 98. That was one hard night to see through, I'm sat here laughing but probably shouldn't.

We didn't even take coats with us which was a bad move.

No way it will be that bad this year.

I hope

    • Generally shorter too, I imagine. 🙂
    • Will that work for arenas with seats? People will have their tickets on their phones and needs to find their seat.
    • Excellent new release from overpass today - well worth checking out.
    • Having lived here for 2 and a half years now my take is that security, safety and organisation are just not a priority in Spain. It's not even exclusive to festivals. It's a part of everything.   Simple example. I'm Irish and in Ireland if you assemble a construction site you have to adhere to a lot of regulations about cordoning off the site so nobody can enter and get injured. Here, you're walking down the foot path and suddenly without any warning you're in a construction site. If not, you'll suddenly find yourself directed onto the road to get around the construction.   Life is more laid back here in general. Pros and cons.
