FuzzyDunlop
They were excellent last night in Manchester, but were only on for about an hour. The crowd were well up for it too. We got ours on ticketmaster so it was only about £16 quid inc delivery, but if someone paid stubhub / viagogo prices for just an hour, they'd be particularly pissed off
sjseabass
I do agree with the criticisms of them on record but they really are something else live - Shaun Keaveny said on the Mercury Prize build-up program that they're almost like a circus act, you go along to marvel at the feat of producing that sound from two people rather than because they've written something ground-breaking. Can't wait for their Portsmouth gig next week. It's gonna go off.

We got ours on ticketmaster so it was only about £16 quid inc delivery, but if someone paid stubhub / viagogo prices for just an hour, they'd be particularly pissed off I'd be surprised if people expected longer. We've discussed it in relation to what slot they'd get but they only have a half hour long album and it seems they chucked in a couple of B-sides too so they did well to fill an hour. I do agree with the criticisms of them on record but they really are something else live - Shaun Keaveny said on the Mercury Prize build-up program that they're almost like a circus act, you go along to marvel at the feat of producing that sound from two people rather than because they've written something ground-breaking. I do think they sound better live but I'd disagree about being wowed by it coming from two people. There have been rock duos doing the same things in popular music since the turn of the century. If people are still surprised by them not having more members then I guess it's testament to how wide an audience they've covered.
kingcrawler
Yeah I wasn't expecting more than an hour from them. Not sure how well adding more b-sides/covers into the set would have worked anyway as no one around me seemed bothered when they did You Want Me. DJL
Except for the instruments I've no idea where the Royal Blood and DFA comparisons come from. One's a punk band and the other's pretty far from it. I completely hear what you're saying, there are definitely clear differences - dfa are heavier and more punky, royal blood are 'poppier' and more rooted in blues rock. To me though the mood i would need to be in to want to listen to one is much the same as the other... something about the raw energy and slightly heavier music than i normally listen to. Makes sense to me anyway.
Gucci Piggy
DFA sound a lot more like DZ Deathrays than Royal Blood in terms of new 2 pieces.
brettredmayne
Given the comments today by David Grohl I think they may sub the foo fighters. Would not be shocked to see them be the main support for the foo fighters tour

Would not be shocked to see them be the main support for the foo fighters tour Nah no chance they'll sub, they're not big enough for that yet. You're probably right about them supporting Foo's though.
Gucci Piggy
What did Grohl say? I'd say there's no chance of them subbing, or even supporting Foos.

GlastoSimon
Wouldn't be surprised if they supported them, maybe not as a main support act but it would make sense. Sub-headlining is a huge step though, I wouldn't be surprised if they were at that sort of level on Other, rather than Pyramid.
Gucci Piggy
Haha sorry, thought I was on the Biffy thread. Wondered what was going on.
TheSeventhOne
Royal Blood have more in common with the banal dad rock of Them Crooked Vultures than DFA.
dentalplan
I agree that they have more in common with TCV, but not with their description.

dentalplan
What is it about these award shows that make bands ill? Edited November 10, 2014 by dentalplan
Mouseboy11
Yeah cancelled the rest of their dates, was meant to be going to the Bierkeller one on Wednesday.
Gaz_88
As long as there fully fit for March and the Blackpool gig, couldn't imagine them in a bierkeller as they seem a bit rowdy for a venue like that

russycarps
Unbelievably overrated band. What could they offer different from last time they played anyway? It would be daft to book them this year.
