T'was i who spoke to Louise mensch on the twitters. She's Definitely a lot less committed to the metallica are not playing glato line now.although she says she doesn't believe the rumour is true and Peter is away....

Yeah, reading her tweet she doesn't have much of a clue about it, her initial answer was only based on the fact they are playing Sonisphere

I'd rather The Cure over either of them. It won't be happening but they are around touring doing festivals, free that weekend etc! Yeah, I wish.

agreed, don't The Cure and Glastonbury have a grudge against each other though?

I think The Cure asked to play one year and ME said they werent good enough live or were irrelevent, something aling those lines.

Yeap, something like that. I always thought it was a strange comment to make about a band that he'd booked to headline three times!

the cure were the reason i went to glasto for the first time in 1990 woukd love to see em on the other stage headline ,dont think they will ever be on the pyranid again though..

The problem is. I can't see The Cure accepting a Other Stage headline as they headline the main stage of every other festival across the globe. Including Reading and Leeds in 2012.

I thought it was odd too but they hadnt been booked for a long time and I do remember hearing some dodgy reports about their live shows a few years ago (though they were sublime at Reading the other year)

As a Cure Fan, I kind of agree. The Cure were fairly rubbish live from 1997-2001 until the Trilogy shows in 2002. Then they were fairly average until 2004. I think it was in 2004 when Eavis hit back at them. But it was at this point when The Cure revival started happening. They went through a weird stage 2005-2010 of playing with no keyboardist but they were still good. Most recently since 2011, they've been brilliant though, as good as they ever have been if not better.

So, do you think if Eavis asked them they would say no because of what he said before? Or would they not care because it's Glastonbury?

I know that when Robert Smith was asked an innocent unrelated question by Emily in 2009 he hit back at her and said that he was upset at previous comments but answered the question anyway.

I doubt they would care IF they were asked though, it is Glastonbury and I'm sure Robert Smith is smart enough to know the advantages of headlining. I doubt they would ever get asked to play the Pyramid though and the Other wouldn't be enough for the band.

Why would you doubt they'd get asked to play the Pyramid? They're bigger than Kasabian...

Depends how you define 'bigger'. For example, Kasabian have had Three UK No.1 Albums, The Cure have had One.

Highest charting Kasabian Single got to No.3. Highest Charting Cure Single got to No. 5.

Then again The Cure have had 6 Albums reach the Top 20 in the United States whereas the highest charting Kasabian was their debut which reaching 96 and every other album since then had slipped down the charts.

In terms of influence. The Cure are higher. World Wide appeal? The Cure. Popular Appeal in the UK? Probably Kasabian.

WOOO HOO - This is just like something from Murder, She Wrote.... (or scooby doo)

"They would have played if it wasn't for those meddling kids"

The cure's dodgyreputation live is warranted imo. I've seen them three times in the past ten years and they were terrible, terrible and then (pleasantly surprisngly) good. I'd go to prince, metallica, the cure personally.

Do we know exactly how much he's 'messed them around'? Not to say he hasn't (though it wouldn't be out of character) but (possibly neil aside) we are largely going on wild rumours. To some degree it was thought jagger was messing them around last year (which was probably more likely to be about money than prince would be) before agreeing but come june the pyramid field was full of excited fans supporting him/them.
