Keep up. There's loads of info in this thread from Neil that suggests otherwise.

No there isn't.

How about some people spoke to members of Team Sonisphere and asked them in person whether Metallica are still festival exclusives, in which they said yes. Someone on twitter and the facebook page asked the same questions and got the same answer. Louise Mensch said they're not playing Glastonbury.

Probably end up with Prince as the last headliner with Adele underneath or some other crap.

that's what Soni would like everyone to think anyway.

I'm going with Neil on this, because I sooo want them to play, and because he usually gets it right.

I could tell you the names of people more in the know about what Metallica are up to than "Team Sonisphere" or Mencsh, who believe they're playing Glastonbury.

But then I'd have to kill you. :P

I'll just point - again - that i'm not certain, but I do think it's likely.

What I am certain about is that any deal with Soni didn't mean enough to them to stop them having convos with G, even if they're not following thru on those convos.

surely they can't just make it up though

it might've been the case at one point, but now Neil seems pretty confident that at the current time it's not. they're not exactly gonna backtrack and say 'oops our mistake, Metallica are also playing elsewhere, giving you a choice of seeing them at Sonisphere or alternatively to see them at Glastonbury'

this is a festival that very nearly stopped existing. they're not gonna do anything to lessen their biggest headliner / lose out on potential attendees

It was possibly a true statement at the time they said "only UK show" (or whatever the exact wording was).

They've certainly stopped claiming any exclusive for them in more recent press releases, and as they know the Glasto rumour is going around and is very strong, why haven't they crushed it which they could easily do?

If the exclusivity has been dropped then wouldn't Sonisphere have had to allow it to be dropped through some kind of deal, like Metallica accepting a lower payment or something? - Which is entirely possible because from what people have said it sounds like they really want to play G.

Or was it just cleverly worded to give the impression that they were exclusive when they weren't?

Name me a single year where Metallica have played 2 UK festivals, more importantly 1 week apart from each other.

name me one time in the last 20 years when Metallica haven't done what they've fancied doing that's been available to them to do?

That's no less a relevant question than yours. :)

They've already adressed this issue and stated that they are still exclusives and only missed that off the press release due to running out of room.

My questions has an answer, the answer being they haven't played 2 UK festivals in the same year. You're question is meaningless. Kili have said numerous times in the last fortnight that Metallica are still exclusives, bare in mind that JJ is a co-owner of Sonishere and Metallica's booking agent, I'm more inclined to believe them, than hearsay on a forum which frequently gets a lot of things wrong and has no source for any information.

yeah, there's a character limit to emails.

While they might still be exclusives, that reason is total crap.

And as for that statement, do you know the exact job position of the person who made it? As in, why would they possibly know?

If it's happening, I know that Metallica aren't telling their own people, and so the people who would know is very very small.

I also know that all the same things (I won't be specific on what exactly) happened around their Download show as are happening for Glastonbury weekend.

That might just be a coincidence of course, but given the rumour it's probably not.

    • Kind of crackers how fast this summer seems to be sailing by. But aye, must be some news soon!
    • I am very possibly wrong about this but I do think that the pitch you get allocated appears to be related to your time of arrival, (i.e. you get the next one available) rather than the price you paid for a small, medium or large pitch.  They all appear to be the same size to me.

    • I take my lad to the local non-league club - Royston Town - not he's 13, he goes there with his mates and he plays in their youth team.  Not many people there - lucky if they hit 800, but lovely supporting the town team.  I've took him to some league clubs too - Cambridge and Stevenage are great to visit and not crazy prices - his first one was Cambridge v Sunderland (I'm a mackem) when they were in league 1, so a great experience for him.  The England matches aren't too bad value either at Wembley - it's just the parking that stings you. Problem is, he's a City fan, so at some point have to bite the bullet and get him up to the Ethiad. Have done the tour, but he'd love a proper game....my wallet, less so!
