I have a friend who is seriously into his metal. he goes to bloodstock, hellfest, wacken and download every year and I've asked him before and he'd be more than happy for someone like muse or foo's to headline download as he recognizes that DL is a metal AND rock festival, it can't survive just booking metal bands it needs to book some big rock bands. He also said that he'd love someone likes foos to play as he wouldn't pay to see them at their own gig due to expense but he'd love to see them headline a festival.

Just anecdotal evidence that I think DL could and should try to book bands like muse or foos

Sonisphere would have been much more successful in the UK if it had reached out to more alternative acts & broadened the line up beyond the likes of Metallica & Slayer on repeat.

What the UK is missing is a festival like the Phoenix/Reading (in the 90s) that caters for everything alternative rather than specifically focusing on one sub-genre. Download has a core fan base that dates back to Monsters of Rock, so I can see why Andy wants to stick with that. Sonisphere on the other hand has a varied history with it being at Knebworth, it could & should have been the festival to fill that void. Instead it's simply Download version 2.

Isn't there a story that Foo Fighters were lined up to headline '08 with Rammstein and Kiss, but both fell through so that's why they ended up with Offspring, Kiss and Lostprophets?

I've been meaning to do Download for years. Our drama teacher was going to take us there in 2009 on a trip, but the principal vetoed that one (I wonder why ?) I couldn't go in 2010 because of a family wedding. 2011 I was going to go on the System day but chose Biffy @ Soni instead. 2012 I had other commitments and 2013 I was on holiday. This year's lineup is dire for me. If Tool headlined next year though that would get me there for at least a day.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Lost Prophets were always headlining in 2008 they were booked a whole year in advance. The stories may have got out there were three headliners above them but that's false, I have no doubt Andy tried for those 3 headliners listed on previous page but they wouldn't have all played same weekend. Unless he was to ask Lost Prophets to move down the bill like he did to TCV in 2010 when he had them headlining and managed to bag AC/DC.

Regarding Foo Fighters and Muse, of course he would LOVE them as headliner and would book them without a second thought. I think Foo Fighters would go down the better out the two, a lot of the rock crowd have always had a problem with Matt's whiney voice it seems to me. Im not sure Muse will ever happen, but Im betting Foo Fighters will. Dave was probably put off a bit with the luke warm reception TCV got in 2010 however. Although Taylor from the band has played solo there too, so two members of Foo's have tasted Donnington, im sure they would have seen the scale of the event and thought yeah im up for this. Maybe next year?
