Best announcement of today!

Are Opeth headlining 3rd or 3rd top of main on Friday?

I think the reason people are being negative to the announcement is cause it feels like the big slots are either not announced yet, or being filled with bands nowhere near big enough in a normal year. Steel Panther was a huge stretch (not confirmed for 3rd main but seems like it), but unless they have a few more to announce are we going to see Bowling for Soup and Black Label Society as the other 3rd tops? They both played much lower in previous years...

There are also tons of rock / metal bands I'd like to see Download book who haven't played recently or at all, but instead its just the past 3 years line ups being recycled into a new order... feel like Download could try a lot harder to avoid repeat booking so often,

2011 was the best in the arena for sure. You could get from stage to stage a lot easier but 2011 was still a much stronger bill than what we've got so far (in fairness, lots of the same big bands played!). Wonder if Download will be holdingh some 'competitions' nearer the date to bump up the numbers?

It's common for wikipedia to have fake / false lineups as people tend to enjoy editing it for lolz. However the guesses stuck in there seem extremely sensible. I would lean towards it just being a series of educated guesses - but someone with inside knowledge could of just stuck em all up. They certainly didn't make any dumb mistakes regarding band placement so it's clearly someone who follows DL festival quite avidly, if they are fakes.

Absolutely woeful mainstage line up if true and the gaps left to be filled would be awful for me. Second stage would also be shaping up pretty dire too, albeit BMTH would be a decent way to end the festival I guess (The clash with DEP would be annoying though).

I'm all but giving up for this years line up anyway, got some bands I like and less bands means I can chill more in the campsite - which I'm sure will be fun too. Maybe the crowd is gonna be realllllllllllllly small this year too, which would be a welcome change.

    • People seem to have got obsessed about 'secret sets' at all festivals this year even when there aren't any spaces other than, in EOTR's case, the usual late Folly sets that 90%+ of the time are from artists who are already playing.
    • To be fair @Superscally barely mentions the running thing. Very quiet about it 😘
    • I guess we'll just have to wait until videos of the shows go up, but the fact that the standing is also greyed out still suggests to me that those sections just sold out out before the others and a blue block just be like 3 tickets left, it's still not concrete proof they never went on sale and if they were never on sale why would they not make it even, if 414 wasn't on sale then you'd think 409 wouldn't be either
    • Selfish, but I've done the 2 days I'm there.. i'll try to do the rest through the day but might get beaten to it as it's editable....    https://clashfinder.com/s/ape2026/
    • I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
