I don't think Rage will actually be around Europe as the German guy suggested then if they're not headlining Download and Aerosmith are.

With RATM being a bigger draw, AC would surely have made a move for them and I think R+L is out of the question if they have some likely August dates so competition is unlikely. He'll definitely get some stick on whatever social media if the wrong 2010 headliner gets booked.

I swear I've read before that Andy tries for Van Halen most years as they're his favourite band. Not toured over here for ages, have they? Can't see it coming off. Avenged Sevenfold, Nickelback, Aerosmith, maybe? If they are after those three, and two are already booked as Andy says, I'd imagine it to be Avenged Sevenfold and Aerosmith who are booked. For me, though, that looks properly shite.

Hmm, not sure what I think if the headliners do turn out to be VH, Aerosmith and A7x... I've listened to Aerosmith since I was pretty young, so I'd probably enjoy most of their set - VH I'd see on the basis I'll probably never get to see them again but tbh, I have no real interesting A7x. I'm not too sure these three would be enough for me to get a ticket - I'd probably volunteer if anything tbh.

Well Aerosmith and A7X please me. I would have to go listen to VH's stuff before I saw them. I suspect they are probably very good but I just can't remember any of it apart from Jump and the solos he did for Michael Jackson. I am ashamed of this as I am no spring chicken.

Aerosmith- I don't think its too soon to have 2010 headliners back (I would prefer a 5 or 6 year break but there is a dearth of credible headliners out there), the problem is that Aerosmith didn't exactly blow everyone away last time.

Also, they were considered the weaker of the three headliners that year.

Avenged Sevenfold- We seem to have talked ourselves into thinking they are now headline material so Andy might get away with these if they are the 'weaker' headliner.

Van Halen- Not a fan, but at least they will be different and fresh. They might even attract a lot of fans who wouldn't normally go to Download. If it is Van Halen the they need to have someone else other than Aerosmith headlining the other day. Aerosmith subbing VH would work though.

Anybody know what Andy's thought on Rush, Foo Fighters Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse are? They are all headline sized bands who never seem to be considered.

Rush could easy do it but they make you sit down at their arena shows so I dunno if they'd like a festival crowd like Download.

Foos are a no brainer. Widely popular, they'll be there one day.

RHCP seem to have lost their way and did a stinker of a show at R/L in 07. Apparently they'll never be invited back. Would be a weak Download header.

Muse. Surely Matt Bellamy's guitar playing ego says he has to smash the home of rock. We'd hopefully get a heavier setlist too. Trouble is that they are so popular everywhere that they can pick and choose.

I've read here a number of times that Copping considers Muse and Foos every year, he's just not got them yet.

I would go and watch all 3 of the headliners mentioned and think A7X are popular and big enough to headline.

Back in the early 80's,when i first got in to rock music Van Halen were massive.1984 was their year in terms of popularity and success over here. next year would be 30 years since they last headlined Donnington.

Right some info in tonight which is from a different source to the Nickelback reports which have gone very quiet btw, so I really don't know whats going on there. It could be that its fallen thru, it could be that they have moved to a different fest like Hard Rock Calling it could be they aren't coming over to the UK anymore who knows, It could be they've maybe agreed to sub to one of the acts below out of respect? But at the time of the info, it was defo on the cards.

The info tonight received and its from a great source, says Download have failed trying to book NIN, but the 3 headliners they're pushing for are... Avenged Sevenfold [obviously] and the other two, one very topical on here lately... Van Halen and the 3rd... completely out the blue this one - Aerosmith.

not sure aero are totally out the blue as played before but I can see them at hrc.

maybe andy has fucked nickelback off thinking of the possinle6 shit storm at it.

I don't see van halen, why would they suddenly be like yeah now, he'll try all the time and fail. nin was inevitable.

I'd based on this take pj out the equation, I thought it was a great shout but maybe he doesn't was a controvertial one the same year as taking a risk on a7x

Erm, same goes for Pearl Jam but you've been touting them as headliners for months.

Also I don't understand why people (not just you Gazza) choose to believe choice bits of the info like 'yeah I'm not surprised Nickelback/NIN aren't playing' then going 'nah, I can't see Aerosmith or Van Halen playing'.

PJ is a bit different. They have actually accepted slots at UK venue's over the last few years at HRC and IOW and there is no doubting there UK status. Van Halen on the other hand.

I don't really get that bottom bit. I won't be surprised if Nickelback do it but I am surprised they are even thought of and can see why there would be 2nd thoughts in it. Aero I mean cause although I'd not even really thought about them or at least not predicted them, they haven't done it before and Download doesn't shy away from repeats. NIN I'm not surprised they went for them and kinda expected them to be there but not with Nickel and A7X too. It's more overall surprising to me that they won't play though, Andy must see if it happens that NIn are a much better choice for the fest than Nicelback even if they headlined which is thought by some if they should

    • Yesterday was another brilliant day of music for me. Some highlights:  My Bloody Valentine - absolutely loved it! Maybe my main festival highlight. I felt submerged in the music with all the layers and distortion. It becomes hypnotic almost as it progresses. Not as loud as some thought it might be, but it didn’t need to be. The visuals added a lot too. During the noise part of You Made me Realise, I was basically in a trance staring at the visual tunnel or whatever it was on screen. Amazing experience. Little Simz - as she mentioned at the start, you’re guaranteed a good time with her. Great performance just like in 2022. Zero complaints. The little DJ section wasn't something I expected but was cool. Kneecap - I had a blast but at this point in the night I was at my most intoxicated let's say, so I don’t remember it as clearly as I'd have liked to!    The xx - The sound for this was perfectly balanced (at least where I was) and the band were great. Lots of talkers, but with the crowd size and being kind of far back, it's to be expected. Intro was one of my favourite moments this year. Big Thief - really good live performers. The lead singer has a lovely voice. This was a nice chill way to kick off the mordor gigs for me.
    • I've been attending Primavera every year since my first one in 2017 & it's always been my favourite week of the year, but I think things have changed.   Firstly, the site just feels too busy in this current set-up. I'm sure it was a lot easier back in 2017-19 to get between the stages & then a good spot for the next one, but now you increasingly have to sacrifice parts of a set or miss them out completely to plan for later on. I wish we still had the Bits area over the bridge to spread everyone out.   But the main issue is the talking, it's always been here but this year it's been relentless & I just can't tolerate it any more. It's at every stage, and everywhere from the front to the back, there is no escape. Not focusing on nationalities, but a major dynamic now seems to be groups of people who are only focusing on their own good time & aren't interested if this affects anyone else. It seems essential that all members of the group are together at the same time, so it's people making telephone calls, people on shoulders waving phone torches, people barging through. It's alright, I'm only trying to watch The Cure here.   I will have a year away to think about it. I thought might give up completely but yesterday was a bit of a classic day after two unenjoyable ones. Adding Olivia Rodrigo to Baxter Dury, Gelli Haha, The XX, Gorillaz & Kneecap shows how good it can be, but as with everything, it's always the people that have the biggest impact.
