Is anyone in touch with Halvin? I've not seen him on the forum for ages. I'm just wondering if he's still getting the official timings direct from the festival again.

Would be interesting to hear what's happening....

I agree Memory Man, from my experience of using the excllent clashfinder in previous years. It's being tweaked and updated all the time, but a lot of the set times listed are educated guesswork at this stage, Watch and wait I'd advise.

And even when clashfinder does become as close to accurate re times as possible, there's also such a thing as overplanning!

How many bands do you becime determined to see, but end up missing, because of that inevitable cider/beer/'jazz ciggy'/meeting mates unexpectedly/random shit/aimless wandering/got lost/"what's going on in that tent over there?" moment??? :prankster:

It's all about chunks of time. You can try and put aside a 3 hour period when you'll be in or around West Holts or Pyramid or whatever - but trying to get things down to the nearest half hour, or setting aims of watching 2/3rds of one set, before a 10 minute trip to another stage to see the start of anothe one... no chance. You've forgotten that Russycarps needs a piss, The Nal wants fags, or Floorfiller is still queueing at the bar...

I'll usually take my sweet time and miss acts rather then see a bit of this and a bit of that. At the same time though, there's usually at least one occasion each festie where I get my jog on and hot foot it accross the site to catch a band who over lap with another.

I always think it's a good idea to take a good old stroll around the site on Thursday, that way you get a better feel for where everything is in relation to each other.

I think I go there thinking 'I really need to see this person' then sometimes that particular band is guff live or you just aren't in the mood for it so you move on, luckily this year I am going with a big group of people with quite diverse tastes. I have of course told them that should i want to go and watch something I'll just wander off and find them later.

That isn't to say that when the Clashfinder is finalised I won't spend ages looking at it and planning my weekend, I tend to find I use it much more for the earlier acts than later on in the evening, something to do with getting drunk I guess

You have to Factor in crowd shifts as well. What takes 10 min on a Thursday will take 20m on Friday afternoon and 30 mins on Saturday night. I don't do jogging. On paper it's a good idea but when your standing most the time the old legs give in

    • Ethel Cain and Brutus to bookend the day were my highlights. Had been listening to Brutus a bit over the last few weeks and had no clue the vocalist was the drummer, insane workload! Ethel was just other-worldly, and even managed to shut the yappers in the crowd up.   Lana was late, flat, but I was stood near the back and away from the masses and it was alright. Ocean Boulevard stood out, not least because her backing singers seemed to know how to perform better.    Even stuck around for most of The National and really enjoyed a band I've never got on board with before. Just so much good music happening!

    • Jai Paul was massively underwhelming, but Barry was exxxxxxcelent
    • On a serious note,  would anyone be up for an efestivals meet up tomorrow?  Me and @allribena will be ootnaboot
    • My minor grumbles from today: I didn’t realise the bands would go on until after midnight. I missed the headliners as it was past my bedtime.    I went to all of the bars and not one of them sold Blue WKD. Nor did they do White Russians.    Why aren’t there seats around the other stages like at cupra?   Too many people in hats.    Nowhere to take your shoes off.   Water taps only did still water- no sparkling.    I got a stone in my shoe.    Not enough men with beards- have they gone out of fashion?   People didn’t extinguish their marijuana cigarettes when I requested them to.    Not enough people complimented my witty t shirt.   Nowhere sold Staffordshire oatcakes or Derbyshire pikelets.    Too many toilets.    My nunchucks were confiscated upon entry
