"They are one of those perpetual teenager bands, they're brilliant," festival organiser Melvin Benn told Newsbeat. He said after their fourth time performing at Reading and Leeds, he knew he wanted them as future headliners. "

The excitement around them was immense, the audience was just huge, the performance was fantastic," he said.

"We said when they came off stage in 2010 that we wanted them back within five years. "It was one of them, where it was just about as easy as it gets to get it all sorted out."

Says to me they struggled so brought them back. And interesting to note how he's saying it was easy to bring back, just like green day were this year after a quick ask after their secret set in 12. These bookers be getting laazy.

I wonder if Soni (or anouther festival) took a heavier act (metalica maybe) away from Leeds which left them in a position of needing a headliner fast...

EDIT - or anouther festival... just maybe R&L didnt expect Soni back/to have as much money as they did to get the big names

I doubt they'd have announced them first if they'd "needed them fast" when they could have kept trying for someone better until like February

To be fair it was only Iron Maiden and Metallica and these acts come to headline festivals too often so I don't think they were even on R&L agenda

I am kinda worried about the prospect of Arctic Monkeys headlining, because I think it's gonna be another Chase and Status scenerio / rolling stones at glasto scenerio, where pretty much everyone at the festival is gonna be in that crowd...

no it wasn't dangerous, it was just massive and you couldn't really move around as it was chockablock of people. I was in the dead centre, I turned around at one point and as far as I could see there were heads. It was pretty daunting how many people were actually in that crowd.

I can imagine it'l draw some away, but I can still see the Arctics this time around getting the "dangerous crowd of the year due to numbers thing" unless prodigy are playing (which I hope).

Chase + Status was brilliant and i thoght the crowd was alright... during one of the Mosh Pits on the last song i got knocked to the front where i was then trapped for Eminem (as the crowd was so packed) and the crush which insuded as Eminem turned up late because he is a star was awful and dangerous IMO... for example from what i could see a lad almost got trampled and lady had a panick attack and i assume it was the same right along.

People just kept piling in

The Eminem crowd was scarily big, unfortunately the organizers will realise that these acts pull in the big crowds and therefore generate massive amounts of revenue... I'd expect more of them and less crowd safety...

Ah I meant when Eminem came on. Yeah, throughout Chase and Status I watched Tame Impala and Tomahawk. Actually had a really good evening of music whilst Eminem/C&S were on.
