unfortunately the organizers will realise that these acts pull in the big crowds and therefore generate massive amounts of revenue... I'd expect more of them and less crowd safety...

Total nonsense.

I'm sure it's been discussed to death, it's clear the headliners people want are just not touring or by the looks of it are not.

For example muse, Arcade Fire, daft punk, foo fighters, blur, ratm etc etc. so someone's got to headline and let's face it sabbath/maiden/Metallica would only play now if download/sonisphere didn't want them.

I also think the '5 year rule' people speak about is going to be a thing of the past, r&l headlining pool is getting smaller by the year.

Who else could of possibly headlined who are touring?

I disagree that Metallica will only play R&L if Download and Soni don't want them, Metallica have said before they want to play R&L again and they know they can't play the same two fests every fucking time. Saying that tho I want them to fuck off for a bit and come back in a few years.

It was always bullshit, Foos, Manics and Pulp and all broke it long before Blink.

Why do people say the 5 year rule then?

Ask gazza.

I've have said in the last few months that I wouldn't rule out (not that I thought either were likely) Arcade & Blink based on the 5 year bollocks as they haven't played other fests since, got new albums out and had massive shows/tours since.

Only crazy people talk the 5 year rule.

However for headliners, in the last 10 so years, they have done a sterling job of keeping headlines fresh, boost ups aside but that's fair game if they deserve it.

So it's just abit of a blow and the 1st time this has happened so soon for a while. I think that's why I'm getting my pants in a twist about it. But it's mainly due to just hating them.

I thought the '5 year rule' was the Metallica thing. I just don't expect bands to play with a shorter gap than that as it's boring. Even if Muse were booked for 2015 I'd think it was a boring booking, as it's so soon after they last headlined, even though I'd enjoy it.

The thing is Metallica's 1st gap was 6 years.

Maybe but they already have Euro fests dates in early Jul so they may not stick around Europe to the end of Aug.

Well I don't know if they tour much so they could just make a whole summer out of it. I dunno, I just saw them on the front page and suggested it to escape the monotony of discussing how bad theories and patterns are.

    • It’s probably fairly easy to stay in a hotel but I much prefer the camping set up. It was pretty quiet where we camped but a longer walk to the arena but the weather was nice so not a problem. There’s also a lake you can camp by. Once we got off the tube/train we walked down the main road and turned right (festival site is left) and camped down there.    Do you think? They do have water points inside the arena & where I camped there were toilets, showers & water points super close. I think if you time it right the RiP stage is so easy to get close to the front. Second stage is decent & a like the indoor arena for bands on the 3rd stage. I think all the stages sound better than Downloads too, always had issues with the 2nd stage at Download being too quiet. Even main at some points.
    • Interesting that they’ve mentioned Blink-182 in mail. Btw dates for 2027 are 10-12 June. Same dates as Mystic & Sweden Rock and most likely Download, RFP & Greenfield.
    • Scooter are a meme booking. The Chems aren’t viewed in the same way. They’re a serious electronic act, whereas Scooter has only ever been suggested (and now booked) because ‘LOL look how wacky us metalheads are we love silly music too’.
