Why is that stupid? Are they all too similar?

That and all three of them are questionable for a headline slot. I mean I know Blink will have a new album by then so maybe they are JUST about a headline position but come on, having three questionable headliners is a bit too much, don't you think?

not if two of them are Co-headlining and will probably prove they are worthy of their slot when they perform, 2 co-headliners that are borderline sub/headliner is better than an established headliner and an average sub imo

In regards to those speculating on the previous page weather Paramore are a good live band, I've seen them around five times, each time being an improvement. They certainly have stepped up their game with the release of their new self titled, caught their first sold out Wembley show on this year's tour and it was fantastic, hands down one of the best show's I've been to! Now there's only three of them they have really improved on their live sound, crowd was fantastic too, met a lot of great people.

I'd have to disagree with that really. I'd rather Foo Fighters and Black Keys than QotSA and Paramore etc.

Obviously it's a matter of opinion. Whatever happens before february and March, I'm sticking to my guns and saying the headliners won't be Arctics, QotSA and Paramore.

Out of sheer dogmatic, stubbornness.

Black Keys aren't really an average sub though, they're very close to headlining imo. If you think about the possibility that Foals will sub to AM next year, then QOTSA/Paramore is surely stronger than that?

Blink, Arctics, QOTSA/Paramore isn't an awful set, they've all got the demand, it just looks poor to everyone here because 1. Most people detest Blink and 2. They've all played very recently

I'd rather Paramore weren't there at all and headlined next year instead, and AM were swapped for anyone else as well :P

Okay, first off, those three are not similar.

I don't think it's that questionable because there's always at least one new headliner, it's something Melvin goes on about a lot. Maybe his indecision is leading to booking both Paramore and Queens, I dunno really but they've both subbed twice and are worth the headline slot. Blink is just an uninspiring headliner booking, we're yet to see if it's weak but they would never have been booked to sub 2014 at all.

Objectively you're probably right but when I saw them in '12 they were the definition of average for me haha.

I dunno, I detest Foals live but I like Arctics a lot (no matter how much I'd love to hate them). I just think there's a chance R&L could have had a very diverse, amazing lineup this year and I think/hope they wouldn't miss out on it.

Really? They were probably a weak sub when they played. It's like if Tame Impala brought out an album with a load of songs for adverts and video games and subbed next time. I don't even think a successful next album would bump them up. Matter of opinion though.

Average performance, I'd agree :P

Foals are gonna be poor outside until they headline and can have a proper light show, with their proper fans tbh, they're incredible indoors, when I saw them at Rock City it was incredible. Haha I'm in the same boat, AM has grown on me quite a lot recently though, and I've avoided their hideous fans like the plague

I said proper and incredible too much here

I dunno, I feel like they're pretty big but maybe it's just who I'm friends with, I think it's different cause they're pretty established as a band worldwide and have a great back catalogue, it just took them a long time to make it over here

I'm sure it's been discussed to death, it's clear the headliners people want are just not touring or by the looks of it are not.

For example muse, Arcade Fire, daft punk, foo fighters, blur, ratm etc etc. so someone's got to headline and let's face it sabbath/maiden/Metallica would only play now if download/sonisphere didn't want them.

I also think the '5 year rule' people speak about is going to be a thing of the past, r&l headlining pool is getting smaller by the year.

Who else could of possibly headlined who are touring?

You're on the money here. To say in mrtourette's headliner summary thread we have:

  • Arctic Monkeys
  • Queens of the Stone Age
  • Paramore
  • Metallica ruled out by Sonisphere
  • Black Sabbath (don't appear to be going on past June)
  • Stone Roses (don't appear to be doing anything)
  • Pearl Jam (a band member stated they'd be touring in June)
  • Blur (fuck knows)
  • The Prodigy
  • Kanye West (doesn't really do festivals much does he?)
  • Kings of Leon (appear to be doing early-mid summer)
  • the rest are too soon*, aren't relevant to R+L, on hiatus or have split.

There isn't a lot to choose from.

* as in really too soon like this year or last year

Prodigy could have done it, pearl jam? Sabbath? Obviously they wouldn't appeal to the masses and I'm well aware that I'm clutching at straws but there's always a chance.

#WhyNotRATM

Ratm haven't announced any dates? Certainly not at festivals or in Europe.

To hazard a wild guess prodigy will be at v.

I think you're right. It's hard to take in because in my lifetime regarding reading and Leeds they haven't really repeated headliners in a arguably underserved fashion. I think muse 06 to 11 was fine because it was origins in full and they had grew in size by a shitload. Foos was a nice break too from 05 to 12 because they had released a great album and had changed from doing 17 song shows to god knows how many.

So this is the 1st time a band for me (and it doesn't help I don't like them) have re-headlined and if anything have gone down in size. I know they have released more stuff, but they certainly haven't got bigger then the reunion hype of 10.

But it's just a sad truth that with so many competing festivals, reading will count themselves lucky with an arctics exclusive and have to get mediocre crap in compensation.

RHCP are missing from that list. Although it appears they are staying in America and writing a new awful album anyway

    • 13th Primavera (Thursday was definitely making me feel like this was the cursed year).  Blood Orange was such a party by the end of their set but we all knew that rain storm was approaching.  So gutted Massive Attack didn't play after the false hope of a new rescheduling, especially knowing that Elizabeth Fraser & Horace Andy were backstage with them!  Managed a bit of Melt Banana but was just so over the weather by that point.   Friday was awesome, Rilo Kiley were so much fun.  Never big the biggest Cure fan but made the effort for them & Robert Smith sounds like he did back in the 80s.  PinkPantheress & Viagra Boys were also great.   The highlight for me was Sudan Archives on the Saturday, she was stunning & with the Olivia Rodrigo surprise set too it made up for the Thursday sh*t show.  Dijon & Knocked Loose also superb.   Shoutout to Cardiacs on the Tuesday too, they were so LOUD, played a storming set.
    • OK, never mind, I'll take normal Nine Inch Nails.
    • Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
    • watching clips of the cure in Barcelona, wow 2 hours 25 minute set. That's gonna be tough on the Sunday but can't bloody wait for it
