Hi Guys

long time reader, first time poster. Went to my first festival with the misses last year (reading) and loved it so keeping a close eye proceedings to see weather next years wil be worth going too.

Now, for what its worth, and with a knowledge of a broader range of music far inferior to everyone on here, my take on the announcement is thus...

there were three main points.... Disclosure, jake Bugg and Blink 182.

Now, and i realise Disclosure might not be for the R+L purists, but they were one of a few bands/groups/acts i came away from 2013 wanting to hear more from. I now love thier album and eagerly awaiting more material, so another chance to see them live, with a bit more knowledge of their tracks is something im looking forward too!

Jake bugg. he is so-so i dont mind his album (first, havent listened to the newer one yet) and like many people (i imagine) missed this years set due to eminem, so although not exactly doing cartwheels over this one, ill pretty happily sit on the grass on a sunday afternoon listening to him with a cider or two!

now as for Blink, must say im surprised by the reaction to it on here, but maybe thats my own bais coming through. A few major factors for me are never seeing them live and being a bit of a fanboy of their early stuff. It certainly comes under the radar of "fun" for me, the type of headline that even casual fans of theirs can enjoy to some extent, whereas (only my opinion of course) someone like AC/DC is more taylored to specific fans and in the general sense wouldnt sell more tickets.

a few people have mentioned no more announcments till Feb, is that in terms of headliners? or will it literally be just the 7 mentioned untill then?

anyways, be kind, or i might not post again! :bye:

If they follow the same pattern as last time then just those announced until Feb. The Feb announcement for this year was another headliner, a main stage sub, two main stage thirds, a main stage fifth and an NME sub so I'd imagine something similar.

As for Jake Bugg and Disclosure, they're perfectly reasonable bookings for R&L and will probably get decent crowds. They just aren't very exciting (which of course thaey won't be, as popular reliable bookings rarely are).

I'm hoping for bands like the Manics, Public Enemy, Primal Scream, Weezer, Happy Mondays, The Specials and Rancid on the Main Stage, not just because I like them, but also to give the line-up a bit of depth and a good blend of newer acts with older, more established bands. But going by the past two or three years none of them will be booked, whilst the likes of The 1975, Peace, Palma Violets, Bastille, Alt-J, The Strypes, Haim and Swim Deep will all be given high slots. <_<

All those acts aren't really new tho.

I don't understand; what's actually happened in here that this thread is being ridiculed on three other boards?

Unless I've missed something or been oblivious to it, we've been talking about the line up for the past two days haven't we?

Coffee shops, parental permission, exams etc etc.

Not sure, and not really sure what Neil was referring to about people acting their age or they won't be posting any more.

This thread seems to have bad the same tone and attitude all the way through, maybe people have only taken notice recently due to their being an actual announcemnt. Maybe justanothername got a little over excited, but certainly nowhere near the kind of shit Matt42 and Gazza are known for spouting in this and other sections.

I say we start a board gang and go over there with crowbars and baseball bats! Either that or carry on with not caring.

For the most part it's been about the line up, there was the Yellow/Asda argy bargy and some other rubbish but it's been surprisingly on topic recently.

Perhaps Neil just wants to have a word before it does go tits up.

But if that's the case he could have done it ages ago, nothing's really changed in the last day or so (apart from the Yellow/Asda thing, and that was minor).

I think we have a decent active community here, a bit more irreverent and nonsensical than most but it's all good-natured (apart from the Yellow/Asda thing).

Some guy in the TITP thread said they didn't want any 'R/L banter' in there, jeez that's a bit rich given what that section's known for.

    • Considering how popular of a booking Scooter have been I think they'd go down well
    • I mean I think unless you are camped in a particular bit which apparently you just get no sleep i feel it would be better setup to travel in from a hotel each day and back. Ah there is so many downfalls to it for me, I think the Download main stage area is so much better and that's coming from me. If you're camped in green to go round all the time and out for lidl and even water is stupid!
