Neil, we allowed to know who this lead you had was for yesterday? Or is the possibility still open?

So with this news of The Stones can we guess that if they accept then the third headliner will be someone cheap? Or someone who needs the headline set to progress their career? I.e Dizzee Rascal?

the possibility is still open. Someone who knows the answer to my question is being cagey enough with me for me to think there might be something there - but his cageyness could be for other perfectly legitimate reasons. I might be grasping at straws.

I guess that might be the way they'd work the finances, but I don't really have a clue on that side of things. Michael might have enough extra stuffed under his mattress, who knows?

It makes me laugh how people are saying "it's disgusting" and the like, but I doubt much of the thoughts that are driving that impacts into their own lives and choices (at least for some).

Yes, the stones are over-paid - but so is everyone earning more than the average wage. The differentials at every level of wage have become too extreme.

So who is voting for a pay cut for themselves along with one for the stones....?

I can see Mumford happening, headlining acts have been hard to come by this year clearly.

If they and Arctic Monkeys are the main acts on Sunday and Friday respectively, I can see why they're going for the Stones. You imagine a fairly weak headline act on the Saturday would come with some criticism, though I'd rather have three bands who want the slot personally!

EDIT: If Arcade Fire are around and rumoured for Bestival, why not get em booked? Guessing they wouldn't be ready for June or something!

So to sum up the last few pages, they're accepting they'll be a less-than-massive headliner on the Sunday as a) they can't get anyone big, B) it'll free up cash for the Stones, who they have now, financially and prestige-wise, bet the farm on (metaphorically!)?

Is that about right?

stereoboard are saying rolling stones stadium dates out on Feb 20th

if that's correct then the Glasto decision has now been made, I'd say.

But is it correct? It's normally exceedingly hard for anyone to get accurate info about the stones. And when someone does it gets lost in a deluge of counter claims, without the accurate being obvious and rising to the top.

Interesting. We'll find out if the information is correct tonight possibly, definitely within the next couple of days

http://www.stereoboard.com/content/view/177143/9

Main bits:

Stones to announce BRITS performance tonight (31st Jan)

UK Stadium Tour with tickets on sale either 22nd Feb or 1st March

SUNDAY at Glastonbury

Hard Rock Calling appearance in addition to this

I could see them doing hard rock calling. Olympic stadium and all.

I don't know, but something tells me they probably will do glastonbury, over the last few days everything has said "Yes". But then again we all were let down weeks ago when they supposedly backed out of glasto plans!

2011 headliners were announced between Feb 15th and 23rd. So I don't think it's going to be too long until the offical annoucement.

Rolling Stones will be the last headliner announced after their other shows have gone on sale and most likely sold out. With Glasto being on TV, I can't see them doing it the other way around.

Can see it being: Arctic Monkeys - Rolling Stones - Mumford & Sons

    • 13th Primavera (Thursday was definitely making me feel like this was the cursed year).  Blood Orange was such a party by the end of their set but we all knew that rain storm was approaching.  So gutted Massive Attack didn't play after the false hope of a new rescheduling, especially knowing that Elizabeth Fraser & Horace Andy were backstage with them!  Managed a bit of Melt Banana but was just so over the weather by that point.   Friday was awesome, Rilo Kiley were so much fun.  Never been the biggest Cure fan but made the effort for them after Thursday & Robert Smith sounds like he did back in the 80s.  PinkPantheress & Viagra Boys were also great.   The highlight for me was Sudan Archives on the Saturday, she was stunning & with the Olivia Rodrigo surprise set too it made up for the Thursday sh*t show.  Dijon & Knocked Loose also superb.   Shoutout to Cardiacs on the Tuesday too, they were so LOUD, played a storming set.
    • OK, never mind, I'll take normal Nine Inch Nails.
    • Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
    • watching clips of the cure in Barcelona, wow 2 hours 25 minute set. That's gonna be tough on the Sunday but can't bloody wait for it
