Can't really say much more, but I've just been told a bit more about Fontaines which, if I were a betting man, would see me put my money on them headlining 2027, rather than 2028.

It isn't Glastonbury specific information but, nonetheless, makes me think there's a reasonable chance. Time will tell.

Made my day with this. Fontaine's/Olivia dean/ Harry styles

Foos have made a new album, it'll be 6 actual festivals since they played last time

They played in 2023 as the Churnups?

Foos would be a poor booking in a return after a fallow year imo, Fontaines would be much better from a 'who is actually culturally relevant in 2027' POV. Like them or not, I'd say the same about Olivia Dean and Harry Styles

Haha.

Just to reiterate - it wasn't Glastonbury information, but it was the kind of summer activity that you would associate with an act who are a shoe in to headline in the coming years.

I could see Oasis and Fontaines doing it but then again I think Harry Styles is a cert. I doubt they go for three males so something would have to give if that was the case (which it probs isnt as im guessing 18 months out)

Harry has got to be in the mix, no bothered for him but it can't be glaosed over.

Can't aee it being that trio at all myself.

I dont think the 2023 secret slot matters really. If Foos release a new album and they are booked they will be relevant, make no mistake there. It's quite mad to suggests Foos and being relevant unless relevant we're just talking new and/or up and coming but that it's the sole criteria to being relevant. Current is a better word.

How come, out of interest?

Fontaines at that level now, and more so in 16 months time. Big solo male act, big female solo act (I can't escape Olivia Dean, at the moment. Everyone on my social feed seems mildly obsessed)

Seems like it fits the bill to me, on the face of it.

Naturally there's others in the mix. Oasis is the elephant in the room, and Foo's are mentioned a lot on here.

Gotta say on the Fontaines front - I did not expect a full return this quickly. I remember discussing how they can't be far off burnout not long back. The amount of touring was insane.

I'm mildly obsessed - seen them an unhealthy amount of times, and that tally will become significantly higher by the end of 2027, but I was not expecting much for a while.

Pretty relentless from them. I'd expect the new record to drop in mid to late Autumn, the way things are heading.

They do seem to like to have a returning headliner, especially in recent years, so I also doubt that trio. Obviously it’s not a hard and fast rule (and maybe the returning headliner has just been coincidental over the last few years?), plus they didn’t have a returning headliner in 2014, so it has happened in the last 15 years.

Robbie would be probably the best legend they've had. They've had more worthy folk. The likes of Ray Davies and Brian Wilson. But Robbie for 75 minutes would be a f**king blast. I can see them trying to get Take That as a 4 for the spot though and they'll probably do it.

I've still got a nagging feeling that Fred Again will headline at some point as well. No idea when, though.

Theres always going to be a better option than him i feel for the solo headliner tickbox, even if theres two of them.

I think he may decide to do Other headline eventually if his stock cools a bit more. Certainly they won't be rushing for him after a fallow year where theres clearly a lot of good options.

I don't think that's by design, more a combination of who's available & active on an album cycle at the time + acts who they simply wouldn't turn down - McCartney being the recent obvious example.

But, on that front, you have to think that if they are active and it can work financially - they will be doing what they can to book Oasis.

Since 2022, 3/4 Glasto’s have had a female headliner and ever since Emily said about the diversity of having female acts there’s no doubt atleast 1 will be a female solo artist most years moving forward.

Chappell Roan/Raye come to mind.

To be fair on the 1/4 year where there wasn't one. she did say a female headliner had pulled out -  so chances are this is a pattern -  No shortage of candidates at the moment though -  aforementioned Chappell Roan, Raye - plus Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean. Little Simz might make it there aswell.

Probably more female options than ever before.

It’ll be a case of who is touring and who actually wants to do it.

Harry

Oasis or Foos or Fontaines

Chappell or OD or Raye or SC etc

It’ll be something like this

Do we know if the headliner fee is still (barring very rare exceptions) 250k?

We don't know. But tbh given that Michael said that number over 20 years ago now - would be pretty shocked if it hasn't changed at least a bit.

Simz has to headline one day surely.  The last album was her best yet (which is high praise considering the standard of the previous 2 records) and she was fantastic in 24.

I'm a little biased to be fair, spotify tells me I'm in the top 0.04% of Simz listeners.

With the overall pricing now and the things we hear about alcohol rules,  it's got to have increased.
