I'm sure Reg's deep cuts have their merits, but this was still a GOATed moment

Just look at all those miserable people.

Still regretting being at the Pyramid for one of the biggest parties the festival has seen, when I could have been at *checks notes* f**king Rudimental.

The chap dressed as Bob the Builder creases me every time.

Elton, of course, was the guest star in Bob's earliest Christmas special, A Christmas to Remember, where he played a member of a local band forced to front up late in the day with - you guessed it - Crocodile Rock.

I checked out Rudimental as the other headliners were, for me, dreadful.

I was prepared to abandon WH and head to the SE corner, but as it turned out Rudimental we’re great.

Without exception every one I know who went to Elton out of curiosity, or believed the rumours of an Eminem/Brittney appearance, or just wanted to look at the huge crowd, said he was dreadful.

Including one of my best friends daughters who left early, passed WH on the way back, and said to me on the following morning “I really wish I’d gone to Rudimental instead”.

Elton was one of the greatest headline sets of all time.

Both Elton and Neil Young should have been in the Legends slot

macca too then by this logic?

Elton and Macca are in the top 5 possible acts for a headliner crowd size at glasto i reckon

To be fair QOTSA were great

@Prince Mylo Just relating information from people whose music tastes and ability to recognise past it artists I trust

The reality is so different from what's in your head.  but you're so blinkered you won't ever see it.

Elton's set was one for the history books.  By every metric it was a success.

I do have one question though - why do you think NY, Elton and Macca are legend slot bookings but Kraftwerk should be headliners?

Elton was a great party at the pyramid but I was glad he played most of the songs I wanted to hear in the first half of the set. I managed to catch all of Crocodile Rock making my way through the crowd to get to QOTSA. My only regret was not leaving earlier to catch more QOTSA but that's more to do with how good they were rather than a knock on Elton.

No way the crowd will be anywhere near as busy (thankfully) for Neil Young but I would fancy him to outperform Elton from a musical perspective based on how well they've aged. Tad biased here though as NY in my number one guy haha

Except for the very large numbers of people who left his set early.

Again this is information from someone I’ve known a long time and trust.

Happy to admit this is a personal choice, but also it would be (for me) much more of a party. Plus Kraftwerk would be so much better in the dark, NY, Macca and Elton - doesn’t matter

FWIW I believe there will have been a fair number of folk leaving.

But that's going to be true of every single act, particularly at headline time. Folk will peel off for all sorts of reason, often entirely unrelated to what's happening onstage.

No one has 100% crowd retention, and the bigger the crowd in the first place the more folk who will eventually saunter off.

Problem is there's no real evidence that it happened at a high percentage - just about every Pyramid headliner has a "smaller" crowd at the end than they did at the start. There certainly wasn't a Radiohead-esque exodus.

No idea what the exact numbers were on that but I can certainly say with confidence that the field was still ridiculously full at the end, and took forever to get out of. My gut feeling is that in percentage terms any drop-off would have been lower than average.

My entire group left Radiohead early in stages, as it felt like we had all counteracted our consumptions

That's just nonsense I'm afraid... it took us an hour to get away from there after the final notes had been played.  But don't take my word for it - the last track of the set was Rocket Man and there's no sign of this mass exodus your friends told you about!

those drone shots make the site look stunning .. same for Coldplay ... gives me the feels a bit .... and yeah im sure the odd person left ... was a long set so im sure several bladders couldn't hold out bet the majority returned on the fringes though

I was right at the top for Elton and it barely thinned out at all. Certainly no more than happens at every headline set.

I also didn’t enjoy it much personally as I was too far back and feeling rough. But I’m not going to waste time coming up with loads of spurious reasons as to why my subjective take on his set is any more valid than anyone else’s.

I’d agree with that. We headed towards Woodsies after he finished the set jam packed moving at a snails pace with for some unknown reason the crowd singing bohemian rhapsody.
