2025 Headliners

Saw the 1975 at Leeds fest in 2022, when they unfortunately replaced RATM. As a neutral (couldn’t really name any of their songs, I knew Matt Healy was a bit controversial, but that’s all), I recognised a few, seemed a reasonable live act, and the crowd there seemed to enjoy them. I came away no more of a fan, and just found Matt Healy to be a bit obnoxious. Wouldn’t choose to see them again, but to the right crowd they seem popular.

Everybody forgets The 1975 are more than just Matty Healey, whilst he is a controversial figure, he is a great frontman, with an abundance of stage presence, he’ll have the main stage audience in the palm of his hand, however his band are awesome, especially live, musically they are such a talented bunch, especially George the drummer, such an underrated drummer.  
 

Its been a long time coming this headline slot, they are reaching their peak, & in my opinion it would be a travesty if they never got to headline. 
 

That said though, Glastonbury seems like a fantastic festival to attend, & it’s on my bucket list for sure.  There’s lots to do & many musical acts to see.

If the rumours are true of 1975 and OR, I don’t think I’d watch any of the pyramid headliners this year - our last visit was Elton, AM and GNR - which was much more our taste. 
 

Hoping for some of the The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Libertines, FBS, Biffy, on the other stages. 

Are The Libertines actually good live these days?

They've played Glastonbury a couple of times.  Some of the people on this forum have already seen them perform there and already decided that they don't really rate them.

When they opened the Other Stage the other year it felt like I was watching a Pub band that had forced Doherty on stage after a heavy session. (Then you realised they started at 11am and must’ve all been sober)

In the headline slot is what I’m talking about.  And I don’t doubt that, that’s fair enough, as I said Glasto is a big festival with a huge array of acts on different stages.  I’d be there myself if I could afford it.

If they do play, I hope you enjoy the TV coverage and don't mind peoples opions of them on here. They are clearly a headline act and it does amuse me the hate they get.

Yeah same, I saw them last year on the tiny venue tour at the Cavern and they were amazing. This after being disappointed every other time I've seen them before then

That is grand to hear. I take no pleasure in seeing an artist - any artist - deliver a substandard live performance, and I know that the livewire messiness was part of the baked-in lore to The Libertines. But remember being left so cold by their R+L spot in 2015 that I just wondered if they had been "found out" in a sense.

 

I remember there was chat they could have simply stepped in for Foos rather than see F+TM bumped up. Or at least, I think there was chat?

You're right, there are others to be held responsible for The 1975's truly awful music.

Matty Healy is the greatest frontman of our generation. The man is a character with the carisma to match ! Just what Glastonbury needs at the moment. Glastonbury hasn't had a good headliner in years in my opinion
