The Dua Lipa Strategy - both work the Friday night and then party together the rest of the weekend,

Or the logical sense category - work on different nights and watch eachother's sets.

Funny you should say ghost town, because he said he wandered to a stage where Neville Staple was playing and apparently there was barely anyone watching.

Avalon

I wondered in there after Rudimental, but it was far too much of an “alcohol vibe” for me, so off to the Temple for some proper vibes

We're back to the 'do you show up at your partner's work'? question.

Obviously it's different, but equally they've probably seen each other's show umpteen times.

Maybe being peak efests here but for the 1975 its not just another show (charli xcx maybe less so).

Its the biggest show they can possibly do in their home country - its a fairly big occasion. They also have no tour dates currently and could defo be their only show of the year, with new staging or something too.

For the other way towards Charli XCX it is just another show though - defo

I mean - I obviously dunno.  I just don't think it's wildly unlikely that they'd opt to do the Friday and then chill for the remainder of the fest.

Waste of a night imho to stand stage-side and watch the back of your husband's head.

Obviously for a random punter then stage-side access, etc would be a huge W - but for folk like that who've played 100s of festivals it probably loses its lustre after a while.

While both have played 100s of festivals and venues, and also been stage-side to watch others I think this instance is a bit different.

There’s a bit of distance between them due to both being touring artists, so imagine they’d still want to watch each other’s headline sets at Glastonbury.

I don’t think it’s a massive make or break deal, they could both do the Friday, or one does Friday one does Saturday. Everyone is probably putting far more thought into this than they have.

I think we’ve had initial information that it was Charli Saturday, and 1975 Friday. And then someone else chimed in with Charli Friday.

Long drivel aside, I think they’d like to watch each other but that won’t be the deciding factor when they perform.

Love that people on here have possibly discussed this more than Charli and George have at this point 🙂

Exactly this

George is 1/4 (or 1/5?) of the 1975.

Both acts probably just got given a date that made sense and you'd think if EE even considered it, she'd probably put them on differnet days to completely remove the chance of any potential issue.

It'll probably come up at breakfast one day.. "hey babe, what you up to this week" "oh got a couple of interviews, a photo shoot and we're playing glasto" "oh me toooooo... what day you playing?" 🤣

No chance they put on Charli and 1975 on the same night / same time. 1975 drummer and her are dating - I'm sure they'll want to support each other.

Don’t see why not. Play the gig and go out together after. Makes a lot of sense. I doubt they’re daft enough to complain about the nights they’re getting offered to headline the biggest stages at one of the worlds biggest festivals.

There are some artists that just seem to get promoted up the ranks on a semi-regular basis. Stormzy, Simz, Fontaines, Carner.

Simz nailed her sub-headline spot last year, but I completely agree.  Similarly the Other stage has a lot of form for mis-judging some higher slot bookings and seeing small crowds at times that you'd expect two or three times as many people in the field.

This is true but in fairness to the bookers it does seem to be pretty unpredictable at times. Megan thee Stallion had a decent sized crowd up against Paul McCartney, whereas the following year Wizkid was completely dead up against Arctic Monkeys. I guess it's not just about Pyramid vs Other, but everything else that's going on that might pull people away (that would be out of the main stage bookers control).

Yeah, I saw neither Wizkid nor Arctic Monkeys that night, better entertainment elsewhere yet I cannot for the life of me remember what that was now.

Statistically I see more headliners at Other than Pyramid, and those 2 stages have made up about 50% of my headliners over 25 years.  When I was first going almost everything I saw was across those 2, but these days I'd be as likely to end up at Avalon, West Holts or Woodsies.

Last year was famously some of the most egregious examples of bad planning of the bookings for the stages, 2022 had similar issues.  Glastonbury evolves though, and with great efficiency, so I'm confident that the occasional botched booking will remain just that.

Yeah last year was as bad as I can remember in that regard. Amy Winehouse into Jay-Z was another one that stands out and led to a major crush.
Not that I think it was responsible but I remember a few years back Emily saying that they were going to be a lot more dynamic with bookings and if someone took off since being booked, they would shift the stages around to avoid any major issues. In theory that sounds good, but I wonder how well it would go down with an act being booked for a bigger stage (at glastonbury's famously cheap rate) and then downgraded to a smaller stage/slot. They could outright refuse depending on the wording of their contracts etc. meaning glastonbury just has to suck it up and hope for the best

Think Emily would be quite daft to put them on the same night though too.

I don't think they would complain if it did happen, but seems unlikely Emily would book them on the same night to begin with.

At the end of the loyle friday info also seems stronger IMO + Charli XCX / Neil Young makes a lot of sense.

I strongly doubt Emily, with all the other stuff they have to juggle, gives the tiniest rats ass about booking acts against each other based on relationships. They can see each other before and after. Charli v Young does make most sense though. Carner as Other sub is just a bit of an odd one to me

Maybe so

as you say - logic and info dictates its 1975 / Loyle Carner and Neil / Charli so probably best left to that!

A big party each night!

We’ll likely never know how much of a priority it is. The other thing baffling me is Young being Saturday and Rodrigo Sunday. Other way round makes all sorts of sense but I wonder if it’s come down to when Young is available.

What about Chase & Status for a sub-headline slot on Pyramid. Unsure if they have been thrown around yet?

But a big 2024 (including a number1) & a sold our 2025 tour. Have done the other stage a fair few times, and very successfully..

Unsure who they'd sub-headline for though?

It’s odd, isn’t Olivia Rodrigo doing

BST Friday

Manchester Monday

Manchester Tuesday

You’d have thought she would want to perhaps to do two days on, off, two days on. Instead of one day on, one day off, three days on.

Unless she wanted the day off between BST/Glasto, and as first booked she went in the Sunday?

For whatever reason 1975 Friday, and as information on Young came latest maybe he was the last one booked and left with the Saturday.

Guess we’ll know more when Young / 1975 announce their plans for the year. I can’t see Young doing many European dates and no doubt they’d be healthy breaks inbetween. So can’t see his schedule making it difficult between Saturday/Sunday.
