Its getting load of sh*t on the download forum - but I think they have actually made a real effort to pick a different set of acts as opposed to the minimal rotation they normally have.  They should be commended for it first new headliners they have had in years.

Tbf festivals cant win on any forums with what they do.

Don't see an issue with either McFly or Busted at Download to be honest. A large part of their crowds tend to be people into rock/metal music and that's just always been the case. People drinking and singing along to cheesy lyrics, nothing new there. Your reaction to this is exactly why Download gets so many comments about it being the same line-up year after year, it doesn't have to just be Slipknot, Metallica and Iron Maiden annually.

Although tbf given Slipknot are active in 2025 I thought they might be in the chat. Obviously not.

Maybe 2023 was too recent to justify bringing them back to Donington.

See they've been announced for Rock AM Ring (which tbf is falling into the same thing with booking the same bands year after year.) Rock AM Ring have announced BMTH too. Just waiting on Avenged Sevenfold now 😂

at least perhaps Download realise how popular it will be and put the on a realistic size stage -  which is something. Glastobury need to learn.

Checked Busted headlined the third stage this year.

Apparently the tent was heaving and people couldn't get in, so no better than Glastonbury (if you think a tent being full is a bad thing).

Anyway, my son has become a Download regular and he's delighted with the lineup. It's starting to look like my back-up if I fail for Glastonbury.

Had new headliners last 3 fests:

Bring Me 2023

Fall Out Boy and Queens 2024

Green Day, Sleep Token and KoRn 2025

Get that Sleep Token and maybe Bring Me are the only true bumps, but still for a fest that had 4 new headliners in the preceding 10 years and that was Avenged, Ozzy solo (after doing it twice with Sabbath), Muse and Biffy. Quite the turn around.

Sorry if it was not clear I meant new headliners plural in a very direct sense - i.e all 3 are new.

Download is a lot of fun, tbf. Extremely friendly crowd there, and while there's not much in the way of non-music things to do, its really easy to get around the arena and get close to the front of the stages if you want to (aside from probs McFly and Green Day on that bill) plus Anaal Nathrakh are absolutely one of the heaviest bands around and them on a bill alongside the fluffier stuff doeesnt half make me smile 😄 as non-glasto plan B's go i think its a belter of an idea

I wouldnt watch the 1975 under any conditions barring Clockwork Orange-style open eyeball torture, but can recognise that loads of people like em and promoting bands to headliner status is a broadly good thing. (that singer really is a tit though)
