Discoveries from Lower Down the Line Up

They're not low down, but I saw Young Fathers earlier this year and I'd say top 3 gigs of my life. If clash finder is anything to go by they'll be clashing with Fred Again (whom I haven't seen before) which would be 2 of my most anticipated acts. However I enjoyed Young Fathers so much that I think I'll go see them again.

If there are other lower down acts with similar energy to Young Fathers let me know please!

On a very small stage, The Hive? Sunday night, DJ dudes go by the name of TIBASKO. Found them through a playlist.

I’m glad you’ve posted this, didn’t see them on the line up will definitely try to catch them

Say She She - disco/soul vibes with 3 part female harmonies.  Lovely stuff.

Nova Twins - edgy rock with an electronic angle.  Great fun.

Mates saw them in the Shangri La ladt year & were blown away. I went to see them in November & they were brilliant. Recommended

Still working my way through the lineup but so far Erika de Casier takes the prize of being someone I knew nothing about and would now be quite keen to catch if clashes allow.

Also, not really that lower down the lineup but I finally got round to checking out Weyes Blood and her recent couple of albums in particular have really impressed.

Woodsies alone has a fair few of these acts for me:

Shame - One of my favourite Post Punk bands at the moment, much more accessible than bands like BCNR and Black Midi, and absolutely ferocious live

Wunderhorse - Saw them support Fontaines D.C. in Swansea last year and really took to them. Their debut is excellent, and a lot of their songs have a great 'shout along' qualities to them - can see people find their sound a little samey though

The Murder Capital - Another Post Punk act, similar in keeping to Fontaines D.C., though which band has the more Irish sounding vocalist is up for dicussion. TMC do occasionally foray into pretty heavy stuff for a Post Punk sound too, and are excellent at a stinky guitar tone

The Last Dinner Party - They have one song on Spotify, it bangs, and they have something like 600,000 monthly listeners already. Will do a Wet Leg any second (but likely after Glasto)

Other stages still have some crackers though!

Black Country, New Road - Best Post Punk band in the world, currently touring entirely new material as their vocalist left before their most recent album dropped. Their 'Live from Bush Hall' EP is on streaming/YouTube, and gives you a heads up to the stuff they're currently playing with a few songs missing that they've been writing as they tour. V emotional, v fun, v impressive instrumentation. 'The World's best Slint tribute act'.

Viagra Boys - Like if you crossed Abba and Idles, absolute punk bangers

Jockstrap - Dance/Electro/Indie Pop mashup from one of BCNR's members and another chap, not for every one, as quite 'eclectic', but I've really taken to them recently.

Say She She - Funky, dancy, RnB-y pop rock bangers from a really young band that I imagine will blow up a lot in the coming years

Yeah, not sure the backstory behind it, but sounds like The Hive doesn't get much of an official listing. Found the lineup on FB

Surely a Slint tribute act would be post-rock not post-punk?

Aha, I mean technically, but the quote comes from one of their own songs, Science Fair, where they call themselves 'The World's Second Best Slint tribute act'. Have some faith boys and girls, you're number one to me

Ah ok, don't know much about BCNR other than their bass player is Karl Hyde from Underworld's daughter. I remember I did hear a song of theirs that sounded a bit Slint-like. If you don't know Slint you should listen to their album Spiderland.

I'm guessing the the world's best Slint tribute act are Mogwai?
