2023 Stage Predictions

Here’s a thing to posit.

With R&L moving on from rock, is Glastonbury now hoovering up the acts who aren’t heavy enough for download but now too rocky for R&L?

Never thought I’d see the day that Glastonbury actually kept rock afloat and the R&L dream alive… Guns N Roses, Kiss, Paramore, and now the first port of call for Foo Fighters in the U.K…

Whats happening!?

Think you're jumping the gun a bit here. Glastonbury is hardly going to turn into Download-lite. There's always been a tiny bit of overlap (BMTH, Muse, Biffy Clyro). Don't really see why Glastonbury is the first instance of Foo Fighters, we've heard nothing about it and if the band even plan to continue in the near future. They've also headlined Reading and Leeds more recently than Glastonbury.

To me Guns N Roses just seems to be a bit of a shite choice outlier for what's looking to be a weak (in my opinion) pool of potential headliners for the 2023 Europe touring season.

How I see things at the moment. Not going to lie, but feels a bit “cost of living”. It really looks like a weak touring year and I didn’t feel that excited putting it together. Desperate for some surprises at the moment, and I’m starting to doubt that the acts I really want to be there (Doja etc) will even show up.

Top billings below

Friday

Pyramid Stage: Arctic Monkeys // Lizzo // Royal Blood

Other Stage: Sam Smith // Paolo Nutini // Becky Hill

West Holts: FKA TWIGS

John Peel: Sigur Ros

Park: PJ Harvey

Saturday

Pyramid Stage: Guns N’ Roses // Doja Cat // Kiss

Other Stage: Halsey // The Black Keys

West Holts: Fred Again

John Peel: Franz Ferdinand

Park: Pusha T

Sunday

Pyramid Stage: Elton John // Queens of the Stone Age // Lil Nas X // Eurythmics

Other Stage: The Prodigy // Rosalia

West Holts: Loyle Carner

John Peel: London Grammar

Park: Father John Misty

Elton John / Pulp

The Prodigy

Would be gutted to miss The Prodigy but by selfishly ordering the acts this way I'd get a QOTSA/Lizzo combo on the Friday and Pulp/Elton to close. Do think with 3 male headliners they'd want at least one female Other headliner and I'm not sure who else would realistically be an option. That being said, Lizzo subbing Elton is the dream. Though could easily see her 3rd down, post-legend ala Miley with Pulp subbing. That would be an amazing trio to end the festival on.

Paramore, GNR would be ace.

Pulp into The Prodigy.

Put Lizzo 3rd down and give us Halsey on Other.

Few names on there that haven’t popped up anywhere yet, there’s still plenty of time but I’m surprised we haven’t seem Father John Misty or PJ Harvey announced anywhere.

Plenty on here I agree with though. I have Lana in for Doja Cat and a reshuffle of days and the same Other and WH headliners. A bit like this year, we seem to lack an obvious older, classic WH headliner like George Clinton, Earth Wind & Fire etc.

Vast majority of folks going with Prodigy/Elton clash.... any particular reason for this? Obvs aware Elton on Sunday, but why wouldn’t Prodigy be Fri or Sat if they play?
I confess this post is entirely down to my hope that this clash doesn’t materialise....

I guess AM and GNR being heavier than Elton is the logic

Makes sense, but I’d choose Prodigy over AM or GNR..... but no way am I missing Elton. I can’t be alone in this!

I’m with you.  Elton is my must watch, AM I’ll probably watch due to my friends all wanting to see them and GNR I can be moved away from quite easily

Also Sam Smith is expected to headline the other and they wouldn't put them against Elton John.

I'm anticipating Sam Smith against Artic Monkeys and Lizzo against GNR

Think they will be a surprise and not on the lineup. They seem to be taking headline slots everywhere and they aren’t headlining Glasto.

If you look at where Pulp are playing they wouldn't be headlining Glastonbury.

I think just about I'd rather The Prodigy be Sunday. Pretty sure they won't be Saturday but I wouldn't miss them on either Friday or Sunday.

I think Pulp are about a lock as you can get. Friends of the festival, probably the last time they’ll tour. No good reason not to do it.

Yeah pretty sure Pulp are going to sub one of the days. They aren't going to be an Other headliner going up against a headliner crowd on a reunion tour. Also, they aren't really a niche kind of act that that headlines the Other a lot.

I don't see them doing the legend slot as that would bit a bit like admitting they are past their best maybe and it's a swansong which isn't really the terms. Pulp as the sun goes down would be awesome.

What is consensus thinking on The 1975? Gap in their schedule & they’ll be active. Headlining Other versus Elton maybe? Subbing seems small for them at this point.

welcome to efests! 🙂 1975 will never accept anything other than pyramid headliner i think. best chance of them is a secret set i reckon

Can’t imagine they’d book headliners as collectively uninteresting as this.
