Anyone know if they’re selling these this year?

I liked being able to just swap them for a fresh one every day. Especially as the queue was usually minimal.

Not confirmed but I have heard they will be selling charged power packs, bigger than power bars. Not sure there'll be an exchange scheme though

You can buy one these days that will last the entire festival - even with a bigger 'phablet' type device (if that's your phone type).

Yep the 25000 mAh+ type chargers cost around £25 quid and *should* last you for the festival.  Phones are around 3500 mAh and phablets usually around 5000.  You lose about 25% in transfer charging, so they should give even the biggest phones ~4 charges.

But worth mentioning you might use your phone more at glasto than elsewhere (checking forums, apps, messaging friends etc). If you have an aging phone battery which needs charging twice a day even one of those bricks might not be enough!

In 2016 I burned through my 12000 mAh Anker in about 2 days, so I took it to the guy with the van + solar panels in the Greenfields and he charged the Anker for me. Got a new phone now (S22U) with a 5000 mAh battery, and gonna have to buy a new battery pack 25000+ battery pack. Would like to go with Anker but haven't found one that size for £25 yet

I find that every time I buy a non-Anker brand, they perform far worse than their mAh rating would suggest. I'm taking a couple of Ankers this year.

Not Anker but very good reviews (not just on amazon)

Side note: Flight Mode when not using your phone helps conserve battery (useful for when the whole team is together/sleeping).

Takes less battery than turning off and on, and makes a camera far more accessible for those moments that you need to capture.

Good tip.  If you still want to be contactable, on an iphone you can also enable low power mode (Settings->battery).  Doesn't save as much power as flight safe though.

Yep - a lot of them lie about their capacity make sure to be super careful checking reviews.

The reviews on these look questionable at best to me. The first link someone tested it and its way under capacity at around 20,000 mAh (still fair value but may as well get the anker at that price). The second one is full of fake reviews I think, tons of 1*s among suspicious looking 5*s. Anker also has a good warranty (they replaced mine just this week after it packed in after 8 months or so, no questions asked)

Anker or Ravpower are always good buys, any of the unknown brands that mysteriously have loads of reviews on amazon will be rubbish.

Buy good cables too, again, Anker or Ravpower.  the cheapo cable thats in your 'drawer of things' in the kitchen will charge slower than a good quality cable.

How do you test the capacity, my Anker one has been great in the past but is probably 8 years old as I basically only use it at Glasto, on iPhone 12 mini now and only need one charge a day max at Glasto as I don’t use my phone much when I’m there

The easiest way to test is with a real world setup - i.e. chareg the powerbank until it claims its full, then let your phone drop to some arbritary charge amount similar to what you'd see at glastonbury, like 15% or something, charge it fully using the power bank, and repeat.

But if it's 8 years old, I expect it'll a: be low milliamphour capacity anyway and b: probably tired and not able to deliver the original amount of charge that it could do when new, so you'll probably benefit from getting a new model. The old one will have some value, as people repurpose the cells for battery packs, so it'll sell on ebay.

Thanks, yep I think I’ll just get a new one as I don’t want to run out especially as it’s the first year without my wife for many years and now with a 2 year old at home so I’ll call home lots which is new. Actually I’ll probably just take both to be on the safe side

Yes - they were asking internally for people to sign up to work at the Glasto recharge tents last month. 🙂

could well be.. just know the second works wonders for me.

If I had a choice I'd stick with Anker...

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
