Live gigs - Who you've seen were they good, bad etc.

I’m tempted to get something on twickets but personally a bit disappointed by the setlist. First shows outside of London and barely anything off song machine or cracker island which haven’t been toured widely. So will need to weigh it up over the last week

I thought the setlist looked decent enough. Would be expected with them to see a chunk of the new album but Plastic Beach and Demon Days provided most of the rest which, for me at least, would be my preference is choosing.

Well the ambition to get David Byrne tickets fell through and I'm busy tomorrow so... guess that's out.

 

Is it possible he could announce London shows for the summer? His tour schedule of Halifax, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Latitude feels like it leaves a bit of a decent area of the UK out of the loop. Either that or it's trying for Cardiff and praying that unlike when I went there for Foo Fighters that I don't get caught in a massive traffic jam on the M4 again.

Glad the show was good, sorry re the DB tickts. I have conceded it a no-go for tonight - if I was working in London today I may have swung by to see what the touts were asking but nothing has come up on TM resales and a couple mins ago viagogo only had 2 tckts listed, one at £381 and one at £10,387😂

Looking forward to seeing Amy Rigby in the Bunkhouse Swansea tonight, very intrigued to see how this has sold for a pretty niche artist, Swansea can be pretty guilty of only turning out for big acts

Had a rough day with some 1st world problems.....   Needed a gig yesterday so just as well I had a Jenny Beth ticket -   
 

Show was all from the 2 solo albums + a Bjork cover,   Really fun night -  The Pink Room despite its size one of Manchesters best music venues and JB commanded that room in the crowd on top of the crowd -  Really fun night....

 

Only wish if we could have just got a little bit of a savages song.

The Cribs at Foundry in Sheffield tonight. Love the band, hate the venue... nevertheless it was a very lively night, and great to see them again. My beef with Foundry is the sound quality. Interestingly the songs off the new album had much better sound than the oldies. Courting were great fun too.

Little festival at Birkenhead Future Yard yesterday evening. Music, poetry and spoken word. Standouts were Lokustgrind, TS Idiot, Bruise Control and headliner Meryl Streek. 

 

A well organised event with next to no time between acts, walk from one room to the other and they'd be ready to start.

Absolutely sensational time at Gorillaz on Saturday. The first band I properly fell in love with when I was 11 so 10 years on this was a massive full circle moment for me and it was completely worth the wait. Terrific stage production, the band gave everything and Damon at the forefront was brilliant as always. Getting to hear so many songs that soundtracked me growing up like Tomorrow Comes Today, 19-2000, Kids With Guns, On Melancholy Hill (may have shed a few tears) and of course Dirty Harry, Feel Good Inc. and Clint Eastwood was so surreal. The songs from the new album sounded incredible live too! Gutted to miss Rhinestone Eyes but getting to see Joe from IDLES, Yasiin Bey, Omar Souleyman (very entertaining as the support act), Bootie Brown, Kara Jackson AND Posdnuos from De La Soul as special guests was phenomenal. This was a SHOW and absolutely one of the best I’ve ever seen.

Lucky enough to be at the first ever gig of Tomora and it did not disappoint.  

 

First surprise a 3rd member who sang some backing vocals, pressed some buttons and zigged when Aurora zagged with Tom center stage Aurora either left or right it added balance to the stage, she even at one point carried the petit Aurora like she was a child...

 

As you might expect we'll created visuals were a part of it as well as some well corographed music.

 

It was great this could really be something!

I went to her Brighton show at Patterns. Really enjoyed it. There was a couple of her slower songs she didn’t play which I’d have liked but can’t have everything. It all sounded loads heavier live. 
Nice venue too, first time I’d been.

Yumi Zouma supported by Vera Ellen at Islington Assembly Hall last night.  VE was OK, not quite my cup of tea but decent enough to watch as support. Yumi Zouma were great, not had the chance to see them live until now so was worth dragging myself up to London for. One of those bands where I think seeing them live is def worthwhile as they play around with the arrangements a bit, some songs a bit heavier and some a bit more chilled live than recorded so it's not just a straight replay of what you've already heard. 

 

As a side note, Assembly Hall is a lovely venue.  Pretty easy to get to and from as well, but the cost of travel and the later time home definitely make London gigs a rarity for me!

Yeah, Patterns is a decent little spot.  Had some good fun in there, low ceiling creates a decent atmosphere when it gets bouncy

I only went there for the first time last year - to see Jesse Malin - and I agree, it's a fantastic place, really enjoyed the show there, great venue.

Manics last night at The Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust - band sounded great and really enjoyed it. Amazingly it was my first time seeing them and would definitely go again. Such a great venue (my favourite), and all raising money for a brilliant cause. Shout out to their warm up act Joy Formidable who sounded great (Welsh alternative rock) and who I’ll definitely look out for again.

Local record shop put on a gig last night (warm up to The Hope & Anchor in Islington tonight for the first 2).

 

LiVES - punky band, a bit heavy for me but good live and played some new stuff that sounded promising.

 

Sangria Furlo - over from Spain for UK debut gigs, great frontman (a Dubliner) and really enjoyed them. Lots of indie influences....worth checking out if around the Hope & Anchor tonight

 

The Ovines - Kent/SE London band that been catching my ear and first time seeing them live. Again, punky but with a bit of.a reggae/dub/ska sound. Really good live and threw in a couple of decent covers including a terrific version of Psycho Killer.

 

Only shame was in a town that folk moan there's nowt to do there were only about 50 there.

Gorillas last night in Cardiff, great night and great atmosphere. Gruff Rhys being one of the special guests, was a nice bonus as well.
