I know stating the obvious...but it really is a massive problem...what the hell they going to do about it...hope it just goes away?

start from the inside out.  And hopefully these people realize things will be fine when nobody is stressed out like nobodys business every single day. itll be interesting to see how ignorant theyll be when they receive free healthcare, student debt forgiveness and better schools. And of course $2000 from the government to start. But apparently these are terrible things to have.

Just watched that ITV storming the capitol programme. Kind of spooked.

Now we wait for the senate trial in 10 days. Mcconell has already stated he will not reconvene the senate til the 19th. pretty much wants chuck schumer to get this going and he will follow suit. If its not on his hands because its not his senate, then its just an optics thing. theres going to be some deal making for sure. Mcconell will bring the votes in for some future pork on bills, simple as that.

Do you reckon he’ll be convicted in the Senate?

Yes. If anything, I think this is more damning.

There is going to be a large-scale commission into the event similar to that following 9/11, and as it unfolds and a fuller picture of what occurred happened, I think Trump's culpability will only increase. The 9/11 commission only started more than 2 months after the event, so I expect a similar time-frame here. It may then be in the Senate's interest not to rush the trial.

On the day, it was easy to believe that the riot was a spontaneous act of riled-up protesters, but evidence is emerging that it was premeditated days in advance, which brings it into the realm of criminal conspiracy. How close does this conspiracy come to Trump himself? If he is found culpable of this crime it is treason, and he could face the death penalty.

The speech he gave at the rally.

Ah, OK. I looked it up and it seems pretty 50/50 based on quotes- just thinking about it in a legal sense. Although I'm not sure if the other factors @stuartbert two hatsmentioned can be taken into account too. But I guess this isn't a regular court and the Senate will just vote either with their party/own interests.

Like maybe enough Republicans will take the chance to stop him running again?

Don’t think Washington DC has the death penalty

I'm not that sure of the ins and outs of it, and whether it's a federal crime make any difference.

I don't think for a moment that Trump would actually be executed, just that there may be a legal possibility of it, and that could be used as part of a plea. And also, he'd die of old age on death row.
