NHS leaders in England admitted to the Guardian that they fear that the row in Europe will lead to Britons shunning the AZ jab.

Ruth Rankine, primary care director at the NHS Confederation, which represents the 1,260 primary care networks of GP surgeries that have played a key role in the rollout, said:

Health leaders are concerned that the decisions from some European countries to temporarily suspend the roll out of the AstraZeneca vaccine will affect how confident people in England are about getting immunised, despite the EMA not having altered its license and the World Health Organisation explaining that there is no reason to stop administering it.

“This is particularly worrying as it is coming at a time when the national lockdown restrictions are beginning to be relaxed, when our vaccine stock has increased this week, and when we can see the benefits of the vaccinations coming through in reduced transmission.

“It is right that all concerns are investigated thoroughly and our members will continue to be guided by the advice of our independent regulator [the MHRA], which has maintained that both vaccines available in the UK are safe.”

Rather you than me, although I suspect you know what you're letting yourself in for when you buy a house that close! 🙂

God can you imagine!  200,000 people invading your streets, blocking the roads, keeping you awake until all hours. Outrageous.  I'd never consider moving anywhere such a thing would happen, even if it was just for a few days a year.

Oh.....hang on.

It's really interesting that many people (not necessarily on here) won't even accept this it's emergency use and these things need investigating, which sounds to me like sound scientific process and

I'd be very concerned if these things were being swept under the carpet- if it turned out something could be done or certain people told to get a different brand or whatever even just to be sure, then we'd all be furious if they pressed ahead and us or a loved one suffered for it needlessly just to get everything done quickly (I'm talking hypothetically). and if it I'd a bad batch then surely stopping temporarily to get it out of circulation is better than using it??

But I suppose on the flip side there are bigger issues than a handful of people which I think explains the sentiment against this caution

And why is it so politicised against the EU, as if they're tarnishing the good name of the "British" vaccine just for a laugh? I'd Still prefer to live there than here...

That's exactly what's happened here. A hostile foreign power is seeking to smear a (perfectly good) vaccine for no reason other than the fact that it's a British vaccine.

They tried this previously with the trial data on over 65's and ended up with egg on their face, and now they're jumping on it again at the first sign of any adverse effect.

The motivation behind this may be partially Brexit related, but also sour grapes that the EU-backed GSK/Sanofi effort turned out to be a complete dud while the Oxford effort actually works.

Incredibly reassuring that our world beating scientists are defending the vaccine, and that hundreds of thousands of Brits will have the Oxford/AZ effort to help get our country out of this mess while the Europeans continue to dither and delay.

Haha, I also wasn't alive then. Just read about the involvement of people like Arabella Churchill (I'm not saying that she was a champagne socialist, just that hippies weren't necessarily a working class thing).

Yeah, I understand there was a bit more "character" before the fence went up. I'm white and middle class so I didn't start going till the noughties! (Although in my defence I was a child before then.)

I remember being shocked to see some non white people in there, but fortunately they were removed after I complained.

One of the few cases Germanys dooming Health/Virology Economist Karl Lauterbach (SPD) words on the stopping of the AZ vaccine are absolutely right:

Based on the fulfillment data, I think this is a mistake. Testing without suspension of vaccination was better because of the rarity of the complication. In the third wave, which is now picking up speed, the first vaccinations with the AstraZeneca vaccine are lifeguards.

Torbay are doing 50+ at the moment, I’ve got my jab tomorrow and a lot of my friends are having theirs this week.

Yep, same here in Tegnbridge area, we've got our first jab this Thurs. Similarly, a work colleague who lives in Burgess Hill has his booked for  this Friday, age 54. Good to see the rollout continues to gather momentum 👍😘

Basically they failed to procure enough of the good vaccine and instead bet the house on the dud GSK/Sanofi effort so they're covering their own backs by smearing it.

It's not just the UK which has lying shits as politicians.

People need to wise up to the realities of our post brexit world.

Yeah some of us stuck on this hateful little island who would rather not be, as the majority clap and cheer as our own government destroys it from within.

(Always have to caveat this with - there was no alternative at the last election)

    • Had a lovely day in Prague now off to the festival. Very excited hope we all have fun regardless of weather!!
    • Iran are winning. If US aren't going to do the full invasion thing, then they may as well admit defeat and do what is needed to get the strait opened. Iran obviously have decided they can take any pain and stick it out as they have all the cards with this Hormuz thing. But obviously Trump can't admit defeat, and Israel just want this to keep going...and maybe it will carry on like this till after elections in both US and Israel towards the end of this year. God knows how the global economy will be by then.
