Sorry, off topic, but did you say earlier: gyms yes, classes no? I know outdoor sports is still okay. Not heard the classes thing before. Thanks!

Yep that was new for the revised tiers post lockdown. So in tier 3you can still swim and use gym equipment but not do spin, yoga, aerobics etc. Which is what I normally do, so I might not be going for a bit and go back to at-home classes.

However there are some calls for tier 3 to be beefed up, so who knows for how much longer?

I’d say the gyms would go ... and quite probably close contact services like hairdressers that initially weren’t allowed

On this subject of moving during Christmas.

My friend lives in Cardiff, who are obviously not doing well cases wise. He was coming home for christmas was going to travel without getting tested or isolated before hand. Now his housemate has had a covid outbreak at work and he has to get tested,

So just goes to show how easily people could transmit the virus while travelling home for christmas if not careful

Matt Hancock and his messaging, if he was smart he would ramping up testing messaging telling everyone to get one before they travel for xmas, but 11 days before xmas, starting to tell people to be careful aint gonna do anything

can't do that - would take up the lab capacity for people who actually need it. Would probably reduce numbers and give a false sense of security too...

Didn't see that new variant thing coming!

It’s interesting but I’m not sure it means much, if it’s no more lethal and doesn’t cause any issues to the vaccine then it’s nothing to be worried about!

think its bollocks and made up - they've finally run out of things to blame the spread on without blaming the people. They need a scapegoat and this is an easy one

And as almost every post I make ends, so will this one....IF this was true another reason relaxing the rules and allowing this new and more infectious strain to spread around the country is even MORE mental

Hancock says new variant of Covid may explain fast spread of virus in south

Hancock says a new variant of Covid has been identified.

He says this may explain the fast rise in cases in the south.

We have identified a new variant of coronavirus, which may be associated with the fastest spread in the south-east of England. Initial analysis suggests that this variant is growing faster than the existing variants. We’ve currently identified over 1,000 cases with this variant, predominantly in the south of England, although cases have been identified in nearly 60 different local authority areas, and numbers are increasing rapidly.

The WHO has been notified, he says.

He says there is nothing to suggest this will cause a more serious illness, and nothing to suggest it won’t respond to treatment.

Thanks = that's a shame, I enjoy a good spin! At least I can play football this time I guess. Not sure what this means for my wife's F45 gym as that just does classes. Anyway, I've been putting it off all day - need to log off and go now while I still can!

Agreed, but just seemed to come out of nowhere! Normally that shit gets leaked.

I haven't been able to do spin since before lockdown and really miss it! My new gym (old one shut) has it but the waiting list seems impossible to get on to. Used to take that shit for granted!

It does seem to have come out of nowhere, if this is the case it seems even more maddening to relax measures at Christmas.

I worry that if it's not true, its just more spin around something you should really be honest about. And if it is true, it would help them if the pain was spread round the country so London didn't seem isolated.

I actually think the Christmas relaxation will bring down numbers in London - they'll spread it out to the rest of the country, many will stay longer than the 5 days and then by the time they come back they're ok and have left it there, while not spreading it to other Londoners.

    • Christ didn't even see that!
    • It does feel very bland. It would certainly spell another year (my third, I think) away from Pyramid headliners for me. That doesn't mean they aren't worthy, though. I don't follow what any of them are up to, as it isn't my thing. Good luck to them.   You would think coming off a fallow year, they would want one big hitter. 'Big hitter' is obviously open to debate, but that was/is Madonna. Let's have it right. The eggs have gone in that basket, and it seems (as far the rumours go) that it's blown up. So now you're left with another plan B/replacement headliner.   I'm still of the opinion that Oasis will do it, before the Oasis thing is all said and done. Probably 2028, if they can come to an agreement. It may transpire that 2027 is bland (or at least to some of us), and 2028 is a bit... wild.   Again, though, none of us categorically know ANY of the headliners, as it stands.
