Hopefully from today / tomoro  we might see some impacts of tier 4 ... at least on infections in London .... to counteract the bad shit above

I have a feeling that we've yet to see the peak in London and the SE. The next 6/7 days will prove if mixing over the Christmas period was a good idea

Sobering tweet this one 😞

Russ has been very good at posting the ineptitude of the government throughout this. He's also a decent artist and I met him through Twitter and commissioned him to do a painting for me. He has become considerably more famous since that happened.

I think we'll find for a lot of people it didn't. So many snuck out before the new tiers were introduced.

I guess what we saw in the newspapers and on the net was the bad news like the queues at stations etc ..... what we have to hope is that this is balanced by those that stayed at home ... we are going to see very shortly ... Now tier 4 with schools shut here ... and traffic levels are still too high

Yes I work with a lot of people who usually live in London and anecdotally their locations seems to have changed a lot throughout the year depending on how locked down London is. I understand it London flats can't be a great place to live 24/7 especially those in crappy house shares etc but it will have an impact on transmission that so many leave every time there is a chance of lockdown.

Bracing myself for the inevitable media reports and shots of New Year revellers flouting restrictions tomorrow....although the channels are clearly going to be focusing on what I hope will be the minority.

I dont think being more like China is the answer.

Instead we have semi lockdowns ongoing ... and we wait for this vaccine to lift us out of this after more than a year ... personally and I would do what is necessary restriction wise to have cut this crap down ... and have been doing so pretty much since feb ... I’ve self imposed tier 4 on myself ... with one visit to the pub I could have easily cut out ... when will this shit  end ? Who knows ?!

But China are jailing journalists who broke the covid story first. And testing their vaccines in the Muslim concentration camps. You can't have one aspect of Chinese state response without the other.

Why can’t you ? Of course the human rights aspect is absolutely wrong ... but there are other countries that have also nailed the response . Without those human rights atrocities ...

The worst thing is- it's not just that we messed up back then, it's that we've messed up repeatedly over the past year and seem to learn nothing at all from any of the mess ups. Summer is completely barmy when you look back at it- the government just seemingly deciding that it was all over and done with, and everything would be fine by Christmas, encouraging/threatening everyone to bin home working and eat out on mass.

It's not even as though we don't have good info and predictable outcomes any more- this last quarter has been like a slow motion disaster unfolding when at each stage you could see what was going to happen. Fair enough, maybe not the new variant, but I think we were still set on this path with the original ending of the lockdown a few weeks ago and the plans to have a 5 day Christmas bonanza at the worst time of the year for stresses on the NHS and higher transmission rate conditions for the virus.

Yep those numbers do not look totally right ... but some things do escape China and they do seem to be more on a path to some semi normality ... remember we did get the initial photos of where they were struggling with hospitals etc and we don’t anymore ... maybe they have clamped down on it ..
