Yeah that felt a bit harsh on it considering it contains one of their top ten songs.

Just finished the first listen. Comfortably their best work since FIOE (sorry @priest17)

Put this on first out of today’s new releases just to kind of get it out of the way, but colour me surprised, it’s actually really good. I was enjoying the direction they’d been going in with the pre-release tracks but expected it to be a ‘listen once and never again’ kind of thing, but there’s some great stuff here that I’ll be returning to. Eternal Summer and Selfless the initial standouts, and At the Door sounds so much better in the context of the album. 

Hell, guess it’s time for my triennial re-listen of The Strokes discography to see if it all finally clicks. Fifth times the charm!

Not listened to the Strokes in years, apart from a spin of Is this it about a year ago... but I have just given this album a bash.

I like it. 

Selfless & Ode to the Mets stand out to me

Hmmmm. This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year. I like all of the singles, and The Adults Are Talking (especially great) and Ode To The Mets stand out, but the other 4 songs aren't doing anything at all for me.

I'm a little bit surprised that this record seems to be turning people back onto The Strokes who weren't keen on Angles and Comedown Machine. I've only had two listens to The New Abnormal, so it's far from a rock-solid judgment, but I feel like it's their weakest release. I also think it's a big step down from what Julian has been doing in the last couple of years with The Voidz.

Oh well. Hopefully it's a grower. Glad to hear others are feeling it more than I am.
