JSmurphy
The situation with refunds is looking hazy too. Skiddle are currently stating that they have no means to access or authorise refunds, and that any refunds must come through the event organiser's own account (a third party payment processor). Looks like their PR team have been taking inspiration from Anthony Joshua:

Impossible, actually. If the production manager hadn't delivered the necessary production - and the absence of a built-bridge is a bit of a clue - then choosing to open the event with inadequate production values falls squarely on the organiser and no one else. It went from sounding like all profits going to charity. Then it was just the Sunday. Then Sunday got cancelled. If it's true that the Skiddle money is being held in an account that Skiddle can't access to issue refunds, I fully expect the charity angle to be brought up again as a boo-hoo. If it were me, I'd be fighting for my refund in Small Claims if necessary and donating a portion to charity myself.

I'd guess that the ticket money has been paid over to the organisers and been spent putting the festival together, and that the company which was formed to run the event has nothing left to pay out on any small claims - because that's often how it goes even when the organisers have the most honest of intentions. Regardless of anything else, it looks like the council approved a plan that wasn't suitable, or allowed the event to open when the licence requirements hadn't been fulfilled. I wonder if the chap running it woo'ed them with his talk and the plans he had at face value. They have given him a free run unsupervised. I've honestly got no idea how anyone independent signed off on that site before the gates opened declaring it safe.

There's some shady operators, undoubtably, but there always has been around the music biz. It used to be venues, today it's festivals ... and I have to say, the ones I've noticed this year with the most bullshit attached have been events from Liverpool (I even mentioned it to a festie organiser earlier this summer, with some mention of H&G included). Shady operators shouldn't be a safety issue, tho, as festies are quite strongly regulated via their licences. If there's an issue around that, it's about councils not properly covering their own responsibilities as the licence granter, because the council has a formal role in overseering what they licence. Same conclusion but from a differeht angle, the artists. Time for a national licensing body to deal with this and bring it all under one controlling body responsible for H&S and planning. These small ones deal with and gain licenses from disparate city and council departments who may not have ever had to deal with event management like this. I don't use twitter much but I'm really glad that he's shown me that the way to prove it's me is to put my name at the end. Total proof right there that he is responsible for nothing . I feel really sorry for anyone caught up in the car-crash that was that "festival" but it's been hilarious reading the social media. The guy (Lee O'Hanlon if anyone is interested) is an absolute twat and should not be allowed to (attempt to) put on any other events that people spend their hard-earned cash on.
