Trump or "People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis" were going to be my next point :)

I was studious avoiding being 'that Godwins Law guy' and went all - check me out - topical.

Although "we were just following orders" was itching for a posting.

I tell myself that Super Hans quote has special exemption from Godwins Law.

"money obsessed themes"... very reductive and dismissive way of looking at hip-hop's cultural context.

I don't know why you're specifically singling out Kanye for sexist lyrics when you'll have much more fertile ground in a lot of the rock bands who've headlined.

I think you've rather over analysed my post. I lazily used Kanye as he was the most obvious comparison. I agree there are plenty more.

I also wouldn't take any comment I make about Kanye West as any sort of reflection about the hip hop genre in general.

I would actually see this bloke ....he's OK as far as rap/hiphoppity stuff goes plus I'd LOVE to see my daughters face .....BUT I think he's a £££££ man and would rather play Reading/Leeds ect ....,.I'm prob wrong and I hope I am ....compared with JZ..Snoop..DrD Eminem is the better choice IMO

But he also has songs like New Slaves

Does Eminem have anything to balance out Rap God?

Fair point made, although I found the example of Rap God amusing when he has songs like Kill You and Kim in his back catalogue.

If Eminem performed like he did in the early 2000s i'd love it, but him stood on stage miming wouldn't do anything for me.

And although I do agree that for most adults the content of his lyrics are questionable - sexism, homophobia, murder fantasies in music didn't begin with Eminem and certainly won't end with him either, or Hip Hop for that matter.

A majority of his biggest hits don't involve much, if any homophobic or murder fantasies, sexism yes but not to a major extent, Songs like that weren't allowed onto the radio. Most of the songs that he would likely play would be songs like Lose Yourself, Til' I Collapse, Rap God, The Monster etc. He refuses to perform a lot of his back catalogue which one can assume is most of his more controversial and offensive songs.

Dr Dre.... thats the hip hop booking we want.

You wouldnt call for Robin instead of Batman.

You are much more likely to get Eminem with Dre turning up that Dre himself but even then he wouldn't consider it worth unless there was another bigger event happening for Em.

If Eminem is making his come back soon and around Europe next year then surely V Fest again has to be an option, even Reading as that has been 4 years....Blink and all that, can't see them turning that down and Major Lazer would be a solid sub booking.

Take all of the lyrical controversy, inevitable protests and petitions, massive fee he would demand and miming out of the equation and you're left with one key problem...

He's shite live.

Don't know when you've seen him but he was exceptional when i saw him.

Seen him twice. Once in Manchester at the height of his notoriety (came on with a chainsaw and mask) and again at Wembley (was given a free ticket). Was unimpressed both times.

Hip hop is probably the toughest genre to get right live, and angry shouty rappers rarely come across well.

Til I collapse is an awesome song. As is the way I am. I actually quite like Eminem but can't see him headline Glasto

also the fact he hasn't been relevant for over a decade. Can't believe it's twelve years since that toe-curling video ridiculing Michael Jackson, I feel so old

Not relevant for over a decade? His album from 2010 sold 17m copies and from 2013 around 2m. Some of his biggest hits are from this decade: Not Afraid, Love the Way You Lie, The Monster, Rap God, Berzerk

On a level with Stan, Lose Yourself, Without Me, My Name Is, Sing For The Moment, Real Slim Shady.. really?  Maybe Love The Way You Lie at a push. Rap God and Berzerk nowhere near. Obvs he's still huge compared to most but he's fallen a long way from his popularity of a decade ago, when he had such a high profile that even that Mockingbird dirge became a worldwide smash.
