was hoping for that too before the release of the new album but now that i've heard it i can't see him doing the likes of Glastonbury on this tour, if any festivals at all - all a bit sombre and downbeat. a Radiohead crowd would of course be a far better crowd for him to play to/warm up than the two that he's done in previous years, but i still don't see it happening

Yeah, you're right. Although if there's one band that could headline after such a sombre Cave performance, it is Radiohead :P

RB?

Elbow and GaGa good subs for me.

Oh,RB Royal Blood.

It's easy to do, you think of so many subs that the obvious you forget.

Gaga is good for me as I'd like to tick that off and I'd probably watch RB if before The Roses. I'm not quite as confident as some that RB will sub but won't be shocked if so.

I'd love a top 3 Saturday of Ed, Gaga and Duran Duran.

It's great on here this time of year, always love the possible headliner and subs being predicted and they are massive acts.

Come May and it'll be Elbow and Gaga as two of the headliners I bet. Hope I'm being overly pessimistic

although i agree with your sentiment of people being overly ambitious with their sub predictions (and Daft Punk being one of the headliners) thankfully if Elbow were ever gonna do it it was in 2014 (when we did indeed think it was them for a while) - their chance has long since passed now

I saw Elbow in Sheffield almost 10 years ago and it was the most agonisingly dull 2 hours of my life. I can still remember how numb my feet felt after that show. They went on forever.

If Radiohead headline I won't really care who plays before them, but Elbow would be very underwhelming.

The sub slot is a hiding to nothing these days. A large uninterested crowd waiting for you to get the fuck on with it and leave.

Beck definitely seemed that way, but both Foals and Tame Impala (from where i was standing at least) got good reception. think it's more down to the fanbase of the act/headliner following. Coldplay fans were obviously just not interested in giving Beck a chance, and to be fair, why would they? strange choice for a sub for them, or as a sub in general. but then you have Tame Impala who against all odds nailed it and seemed to have the crowd on their side throughout. Pharrell and Weller (and The Libertines) all went down excellently in previous years as they were perfect subs for their respective headliners - last year they just made a bit of a balls up with Beck. thank god D'Angelo didn't end up subbing Adele. it would've been embarrassing

Did we? ;), I don't think I saw a chance.

I disagree with you that Elbow to sub Radiohead, regardless of what I think, there is many people still that will find that very dull.

Personally I think they could do Other sub when Gaga or RB are on.

Spot on, I don't think anybody in their right mind would've expected Tame Impala before Adele to go down especially well, but they nailed it and it was fantastic. Likewise the whole Libertines surprise thing was amazing.

I'm going with The Weeknd to either sub Daft Punk or headline The Other

gonna go with exactly the same predictions i had for this year - subbing the more mainstream/pop headliner (Sheeran next year as i've lost confidence in Daft Punk appearing), or subbing a dance headliner on Other

Sub Pyramid is Other headline though....and I don't see The Weeknd as that. Yeah, I don't think Pitchfork saying no to DP holds much as they just copied a story saying no for LCD this year....they don't know shit basically, but COS is different.

Some guy made me think of the Coachella boards, why would they book DP for Coachella when it's an straight sell out anyway and they could book them on their own event at the Polo Fields and cash in?, as he said it makes sense. They rake in the standard festival sell out without even booking them and using that cash there, GV then cash in on using them fields for their own show which people would flock to. And those fields are a rarity I believe for stand alone concerts.

Radiohead
Royal Blood

Major Lazer

Ed Sheeran
The Weeknd
Duran Duran

The Stone Roses
Lady Gaga
Jamie T
Diana Ross

The XX
Elbow

Tbf a lot of his recent stuff is at least as 'dance' as Disclosure and stuff like that. Headlining Other against a rock band would do. Can see him just headlining Wireless instead though.

You not got Paolo amongst your subs then? He has to be there and he could sub now, really. Think him, Royal Blood and Elbow as it is but surely someone more interesting should come into play.

aye tbf The Weeknd is probably getting mega money thrown at him for exclusives etc at the moment so can easily see him missing Glastonbury in favour of something like Wireless unless Glastonbury is on his radar of 'to-do's', which i doubt it is considering he pulled out without notice/something happened in 2013

i'm holding out hope that there's something more interesting than Elbow below Radiohead. that'd be a frustratingly dull choice. i'd totally forgotten about Paolo though and i guess he seems like an obvious one for below Sheeran

Are Royal Blood really sub headliners? They are the most one trick pony band of all time! Hopefully they go third down like Alt-J, although I guess Alt-J were originally booked to sub were they not?

The only reason I see The Weeknd doing it is because he cause cash in this year and do it next year instead, but like you say it's not like he would cherish it etc and find it hard to resist.

I forgot Paulo when I did mine, I would defo put him in and under Ed.

I'm personally with jparx and don't see RB as sub..or Elbow, I think RB could easily be 3rd down Pyramid or sub Other. Remember Bastille got a 3rd down Reading Exclusive in 15, in 16 they were still seen as that position and the album didn't come out until this September so their 3rd down was still off of their 1st album....bigger tours, and still 3rd off of a new one.
