Can I just say that I'm all for pacing, but surely not at Glastonbury!? Maybe cos I'm only just 18 that I have a different perspective, maybe I'll learn one day

When I was 18, there was no need for pacing! As you get older, stamina goes out the window. Enjoy it while it lasts :)

you'll be fine as youth bounces well, when you get into your 40's like me the bounce back isn't that great but I never learn lol

only little cans of kopperberg pear allowed before midday, then beer/ale from lunch to dinner time, then wine till it gets dark then shots. Planning on adding tactical coffees in the afternoon to get me through more of the night as naughties are off the menu these days.

Another vote here for the coffee

Swig of voddy first thing in the morning to complement the Colgate.

Rosé as breakfast juice until 2pm.

Beers thereafter until mid-headliner.

Voddy / shots, continued until round the campfire thereafter until collapse-in-tent.

Repeat until Monday morning.

I'm certainly tweaking the way I pace myself. I use to be a balls out Wednesday-Sunday constant drinking, few other bits at night (very occasionally day too) but those days are a distant memory and I have no desire to repeat them.

I've not drank before 12pm the last few years, last year a brought a camelback so I was constantly hydrated. This made a huge difference but on a certain afternoon early on I drank far too much and too varied and I was spent by Sunday and wasted the day & night, I don't want this again.

this year my plan will be lager only from midday, 1ltr pre mixed cocktails (of sensible strength) for the evenings with the addition of some party aides at least one evening.  I will also smoke a lot more during the day time which is something I've not done properly for a long time.

I'm going Friday morning onwards and I'm literally only taking 20 Stella & 3ltr of cocktails, not much by most people's standards but I want to see the finish line this year.

Ensure I eat and keep hydrated. I used to have very little non alcoholic drinks over the weekend but now I take a bladder for use in the day so I always have water avaliable.

Game chargers arnt they. My mates are all grateful for it in the small hours too, I'm like the water boy

Hah, great topic.

I'm also planning no booze before 12, then beer/cider, then spirits from evening onwards.  No naughties for me either, tactical coffees and/or pro plus might be order of the day (or night...)

One thing that has seemed to work quite consistently for me at festivals, stag dos or any multi-day bender is to vary what I'm drinking day-to-day - but not mix it up on the same day.  Dunno if that gives your body just a bit more chance to deal with it or what, but definitely seems to help both in lasting days out & managing the hangovers.

So, my plan this year is to kick off on the Weds with cider daytime & rum in the evening, Thurs beer & vodka, then alternate.  We'll see how it goes...

Edited to add - definitely yes to lots of water & food too.  As others have said, with all the food on offer, would be harder (for me at least!) not to eat...

When going at it full throttle the only thing for me is eat something, even if it means chewing it 500 times (and most things do). If you dont when night comes you'll get cold, really cold. Drink plenty water even though you don't want to as it makes you piss more. If you don't you'll be struggling to do a shit which makes you feel a lot, lot worse. Sorry if anyone is eating at the moment

It's a theory I spoz and if it works for you great, personally I find that my body is better with working up a tolerance. After an initial buzz off my first 5/6cans I don't really get too drunk, regardless of what I drink, however by day 3 I feel hanging

I used to be an absolute weapon  (or liability) and hit it hard from Thursday and wonder why I was a husk of a human being come Sunday.  most years I was able to power through on the fumes but it's become a massive struggle the last year or so.

my top tips are:

no heavy drinking / lots of spirits in the day

eat regularly and make sure you've had a decent meal before you start the heavy drinking / naughtiness

a little bit of naughtiness in the day is OK,  a lot a night perfectly fine BUT no good has ever come from taking stuff after 3am. I know you feel like a party machine, but if you've already indulged in naughtiness, you're not going to add too much to your night,  only your come down.

5 htp is a God send. it's tryptophan and helps your body make serotonin which helps massively when recovering from a heavy night on naughties.

drink plenty of water

that's all I can think of. hopefully I'll manage to take my own advice this year!

They are. I drink so much more water with a tube in my mouth compared to a bottle in my hand.

There's a finbarr in there somewhere...

Yeah and when you've filled it up for the 3rd time that day and you realise you managed to drink nearly 5ltr in a day you just feel better and you don't get that ice cold in Alex, Gandhi's flip flop feeling first thing in the morning.

This is totally me, however, ive tried 5HTP two years now and it does nothing for my come downs. I tried a cheap one of ebay then the extortionate one from Holland & Barrett. Didn't work for me.

When do you normally take it and how much?

I've tried "preloading" and also taken as needed.

Am I the only one who can go harder and longer since I turned 30 than I could when I was 18

Definitely, it's the hangover that kills me though these days. Fortunately the combination of walking lots, drinking lots of water, fresh air and never really sobering up helps me to avoid my normal shitty hangovers at festivals. Come Monday night and I'm absolutely broken however.
