The Spike - shiny disco ball, does have a bar and some decent tunes :) finally made a visit last year at night as the shiny disco ball lights are fab!

The only time I've been here a group of topless girls surrounded me and tried to take my clothes off. I had to go though because I was already late for Todd Terje.

Is the Rum Shack still in the late night area? Also I remember very reasonably priced rum-based drinks from Cubana (Glasto Latino?). There was also a new(ish) Rum cocktail place in Silver Hayes last year, near The Blues. The problem with being partial to rum-based drinks is I have no real recollection of where and which year most places I've drunk at actually were!

Had a google and found this cached page which may help if anyone is actually compiling a thingy....

Thanks for that! We now know that the Theatre bar is whre to find the Grimbergen. I also now know Rock the Kasbah was the location of my dancing on the table to Busted. I also have another couple of bars to check out, looking forward to the 2016 page.

See, I knew there was something about the place!

What bars would be good for more soulful funkier house as opposed to minimal techy stuff?

Shangrilati one of the 'pop up' bars inside Shangri-la last year was great but not sure if it will be returning this year.

It will probably have a successor.

Also, keep an eye out for the June full lineup and just have a quick listen to a few of the DJs listed, see how each area describes itself on the AREAS section of the official site (an underrated resource I find), but lastly and most importantly in my opinion, not knowing what will be were is a great excuse to explore and peer round the next corner.

I saw on a (non-music) forum that one of the Shangri La bars this year is going to be a fake celebrity/VIP bar, which could be interesting (or awful).

Well why not - I have worked in loads and I am sure that many people are curious as to what they are like although ' there is very few people who I ever recognise ' most people are friends of a friend
rather than the actual Performers - what has changed in the last 27 years is there is more Hospitality areas ' within the main Guest Area ' so a normal Guest wrist band will get a person in to the General Area but they need a special invite to gain entry to these extra areas - I can normally tell the new ones as sometimes they assume that all drinks are free - when I hit them with the bar bill they will wave their Guest wrist band as if it was Magic Talisman.

I do explain that the bar they are standing in 'is not a free bar' although if they go to the next bar that is free if they have a special invite.

so if they do it right it may capture the real thing.

So true, blagging is hardly worth it these days. Unless you are at a Maiden aftershow, they pay for everybody's drinks. Top lads.

I have been friends with Fish {Marillion}  even before he was called that - we had arranged to meet up at The Hammersmith Odeon in the 80's and on the night I went is to see his Manager and picked up my pass - after the gig I went to the Back stage bar { which is above the stage } and it was packed - Derek wanted to see me over something  but as he was walking towards me he was constantly interrupted but he eventually made it over - I asked him ' who all these people were ? ' {because I met him a few months ago in the same venue and there was only a small handful of guests} - he said ' well apart from my Manager and you I don't know anyone else in this bar tonight.

What was weird was that most of them had not even watched the gig because there was only a few people who sat on the front row and I knew all of them.Later found out they were connected to his Manager and his Agent. We left them in there and went to the Bands dressing room and just had a drink in there.

I would get well pissed off if people got a special pass but then don't bother watching the gig.

My Fave's include:

  • Beat Hotel.  Good strong cocktails and some great music/DJ's from a variety of styles.
  • Bimble Inn.  Great range of ales/cocktails, loads of comfy loungy cushions and a very laid back vibe.  Again, great live and not live music especially later and into the small hours.
  • Rabbit Hole.  A MUST, especially after the main stages close as it really comes alive.
  • Avalon Inn.  If you can get in it.  Always packed.
  • Kasbah.  A great central meeting place for the split group to reconvene, loads of seats and again, great tunes.

Is this up by the Park Glastonbury sign?

Yup.  Looks like a collection of light brown teepees, just at the bottom of the really steep bit of Park hill.

I don't think I've ever been in Kasbah. Tend to try and get away from 'Babylon' ASAP. It's good then, is it?

We love it in there, given the location it suits our group as a place in between where we camp and the stages that's pretty central so it became our daytime meet up bar.  They have some live acts on throughout the day and some of them have been really good.  Also went there in the early hours of Friday morning one year solo and got fucking smashed out of my bonce on whisky with a load of Glaswegians.  That was a good night.

I love the Kasbah as well. Was in there last year on the Thursday night about 9pm. The DJ was playing some awesome tunes, and then chucked on a bit of Pulp and everyone got up and started dancing. I was in there about 2 hours in the end.

Also love Avalon Inn for relaxing, and that bar at the very top of the site near the Glastonbury sign. It was lovely up there in the morning lat year when the weather was nice

  • 1 year later...

I just love The Avalon, on a sunny afternoon sat up top with your legs dangling over watching the Glasto world go by.

that is literally one of my favourite things to do at the festival :)

The spike is also really cheap! Discovered this when we got bored waiting for James to come on stage. We were the only ones in there at that time, enjoyed it so much we missed James!;)

Some great suggestions in here, my faves are:

Bimble Inn - I always pop in late night on way back to tent as there's always something interesting going on - good ales as well

Beat Hotel - great selection of djs

Crows nest bar - lovely views of course!

the spike - bloody love this place!

And best new bar goes to the one in the Woods, new last year - really nice spot, looks like they may even improve it this year
