If we're going by #thingylogic then maybe we'll get the full poster by Friday, ticket refund deadline day...

Don't say that! You'll get me all excited and I'll be disappointed on Friday!

Thinking about my past Glastonburys, as obsessed as I am, for some reason I can't quite remember how full line ups have come about before. Not that it'd be any help if I could by the sounds of things, seems the announcements are as unpredictable as the festival itself :)

The Thingy™ says West Holts didn't do a poster last year.

#AllhailTheThingy

Sometimes, and I do realise that I might be committing a grave act of heresy here, but just sometimes The Thingy doesn't tell you everything.

They did a poster, it's just it came out after the full splits and set times had already released so wasn't all that interesting:

HERESY!!

All in seriousness though, that WH poster didn't tell us a great deal that wasn't on the first poster. All the headliners and subs (and one or two more) were already known. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a WH poster to be released before the bigger main poster, but I can't see it.

I haven't yet had the moment of clarity where I could see it's wholesale appeal.  Is it just that it's nice to see the dates things happened in the past without searching in your own sources?

There's a couple of things though..

The fact they produced one last year means that they may well do one again this year..

And the fact that the announcements so far are approximately 2 weeks ahead of this time last year means they've potentially got more time to announce stuff between now and the Festival.

Very true - it does seem a little weird that they produced a poster last year, only for it to get a bit lost behind the bigger announcement. I think if they do one before it won't have the day splits though, as I don't think (could be wrong) any of them do before the later announcement.

EDIT: I think Leftfield's poster had day splits.

I think you've spent thousands more hours here than me, I've always been a bit of a fair weather friend who was a bit sulky at time either after the festival or in times where I hadn't yet got a ticket in the sale.

You folks with many thousands of posts get a very regular flow of questions about when things did/will happen, in which case it's a great place to point them to?

Yes exactly.  From memory, everyone (including regulars) kept asking questions about when certain events took place, which led to lists being posted on forum threads of the salient events.  This was (initially informally) referred to as "the thingy", and eventually formally referred to as "The Thingy".

"When was the first poster?" they asked.
"Someone summon The Thingy" they said.

This went on for a couple of years until a wise, learned (and lazy) person said "Someone should make a web site of this".  Within a day at least two sites sprung up with Gnomicide's being the best.  And the rest is history.

It's just a bit of fun, we like to make out it's much more important than it is really. ;)

Cripes and now I've foolishly questioned its power within earshot of the creator?

Humble apologies Gnomicide :(

Err who's saying it not important? We have a non-believer!
