been meaning to give his stuff a listen. this is very good! the other members' new band Whitney are sounding pretty damn promising as well - have only heard this song so far (not sure if they've released any more) but it's been getting a lot of plays from me. very different from Smith Westerns

I didn't even realise he had solo stuff out until I saw someone mention it last week so it was a nice surprise. Definitely worth giving the album a listen.

That Whitney song is really good, as you say certainly a bit different to Smith Westerns but I like it.

I saw them in Manchester, was really impressed. I absolutely love No Woman

Don't know how to post embedded videos but here's the new one from The Rhythm Method. Probably my new favourite band since I saw them support Real Lies last year.

Some really clever lyrics and fun backing tracks.

I think they're playing the farm as well

After two listens through of the new (rather beautiful two-colour vinyl) Explosions in the Sky record, I can report that it's bloody good.

Despite being a classic Post Rock fanboy, I'm enjoying the fact that they have decided not to make just another quiet>quiet>quiet>build>build>build>BUILD...CRESCENDO!! record.

This new one is more electronic and varied and no less smashing for it. Now I'm looking forward even more to their headline set on The Park.

;)

Where should I start with M83 please peeps? Have listened to a few tracks on Deezer and quite like it.

Will people stop picking on The Pet Shop Boys please?

I'd say Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts and Hurry Up, We're Dreaming are their two best albums so probably worth starting with one of them. They're a bit different to each other, Dead Cities... is more shoegazy electronic music whereas Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is much more pop influenced.

Hurry Up sounds like my kind of thing.

Will put it on Deezer after I have stopped rocking my box off to The Pet Shop Boys. Cheers for the reply :-)

Saturday's = Youth

Forgive my ignorance mate but is that a M83 album? I had a listen to the Hurry UP album last night, quite enjoyed it although it got a bit samey.

Hurry Up definitely isn't their best imo - some great songs but i agree that it gets a bit samey. give Before The Dawn Heals Us a go as that's their all round best effort i think. Saturdays = Youth is also very good. was the one that first introduced me to them

I've had the new NZCA Lines record on pretty much every day this week

I only listened to that album because someone mentioned it on here last month, it was possibly even you, but yeah it's a really good album. Two Hearts is a fantastic song.

    • I too am always a bit blurred on what/who constitutes a legend slot but would Sting fit that bill?  Those there said his IoW slot was v good and he has enough of a songbook imo for a Sun afternoon if he uses the Police's 1st 2 albums for a fair chunk of it
    • Thing is, I'd have said that as well.   But then she inexplicably ended up on the Wilderness lineup and that changes everything. I reckon if that goes well, which it will, then she's very much in the picture.
    • This has probably been discussed a hundred times already on efests but what constitutes a legend? I know some of it is my age but I don't see eurithmics or Duran Duran as legend status. Neil young or nils lofgren then yes and neither of them have overly troubled the charts. Duran Duran and indeed the eurithmics I would put in the 80s category and whilst it would be ok (human league at isle of wight we're fabulous) they just arent in my mind legend status.  Zombies played same festival- i would take that.
    • friendly tonight delayed , pitch draining pretty quick to be fair .... not sure it bodes well for other games with potential fixture backlog
    • Never happen, but an Annie Lennox solo or Eurythmics reunion would make me very happy.
