Radiohead touring in 2016

Playing Devil's Advocate here so don't shoot me down...

Would Radiohead sub? Obviously they're massive on here and amongst the indie community, but how popular are they amongst the general public anymore? Last album in 2012 wouldn't have made much of an impression and while In Rainbows was (rightly) critically acclaimed, again it didn't make the same impression OK Computer did.

Is it possible that the organisers see Muse as being more "relevant" and we could end up with the blasphemous scenario of Radiohead subbing them?

If everything was already firmly arranged then I'd guess they'd have to bin one of them off, but if things were still a bit fluid with the bookings, I reckon they'd see if it was possible to accommodate all of them somehow.

 

Very true. If all four were desperate to play then they would have to see what they could do.

The wait until April/May to find out is going to be a killer.

Yep, pretty much that.

Tho I will add the caveat that the "Muse playing but not headlining" info is the most tenuous of the various "info and sources" from how I'm weighing them up - tho that doesn't get to mean it's wrong.

I could actually see that. Maybe Radiohead came late to the party and were offered a Co headline spot playing before Muse? If they still had a 1.5/1.75 set I'd be all for it! Would Muse want to follow that though

The fact that they have been moved in doors for the icelandic festival makes me think their set up needs darkness and therefore I can't see them subbing in a sunset slot

i definitely can't see Radiohead subbing - their long awaited return to the Pyramid stage and they're not headlining it, and to make things worse, Muse are?! nah. if any of the acts are gonna be there and not headline then imo it's Muse, as that's what Neil's info has said and they were always the headliner who's place at the top of the lineup seemed like an oddity

Which source do you trust the least , radiohead or muse

When the lineup is released do they also release where people are playing, Or does it start with purely the poster ?

purely the poster, but the positioning of the names (especially headliners/subs/Other headliners) usually makes who's who pretty apparent. will be very interesting if all Radiohead, Muse, Adele and Coldplay are on there, although i'd hazard a guess that if all 4 are playing, whoever's not the headliner will initially be listed as a 'special guest' and added to the poster at a later date

the muse one* about them not-headlining is the one I have the least trust in - but you need to realise that just because I know nothing much about the source it doesn't mean it's wrong. I can't dismiss it just because I can't place my trust in it.

(* I have other Muse info that puts them in a headline slot that I trust - tho the info is far older, and things might have changed).

When does it become apparent who's playing each day, (headliners, subs, other headliners) 

One thing I love about r&l poster is the major clashes are visible immediately

some of it can be figured out by tour dates / basic sense, and i believe the 'written list' of acts on the website last year listed a lot of them in order of days (all the Pyramid, Other, West Holts headliners were listed in order of day etc) but you won't know for definite until the day splits are released later in the year

The day splits usually come out around May. We've a ways to go yet! If in doubt, www.thethingy.co.uk

Given it's taking a while for Radiohead to announce a proper tour I wouldn't rule out 2017 either if they don't play this year. It's getting a bit late for them to announce a proper arena tour for before the festival season. That would seem to fit in with them playing European arenas in the autumn and then Americas/Asia going into the Spring. So they could easily play a festival or two next summer too.

Radiohead have not done a full uk tour since 2003

It doesn't rule out the possibility of one of Muse or Radiohead playing elsewhere on the bill.

The word I had of radiohead didn't specifically put them in a headliner slot, so perhaps thewy're not headlining.

Word I had of Muse (normal caveats) said they wouldn't be headlining.

 

I reckon Adele isn't heading as she doesn't want that weight and pressure on a show and that Muse are probably heading Friday but may well have been in discussions to taking a lower slot on the Sunday if need be to fit in. Nicely leaving the weekend full open in case. Not convinced Radiohead are headlining.

I gueas could come down to which one as an extra is willing to say, we want to play and for Glasto we'll take a lower but special guest role kind of thing.

Not long til the NME awards.  Something almost always comes out there, even if it's only a source of more rampant speculation rather than hard news.  I can't help feeling that Coldplay will be announced then, not least with their Glastonbury inspired Superbowl performance.

As for the head and their setlists, as long as I get to hear myxamotosis and the gloaming I'll walk away happy.  PS.  I dance like Thom.

Muse were rumoured to headline Bestival last year for months and it didn't end up happening. Let's hope these rumours mean nothing because there's no way there can be more demand for them over Radiohead.

Difference there being that Matt Muse actually said it himself in an interview at a point where nobody could imagine them dropping in to play at Bestival. No idea why it fell apart really.

Also I think there would be more demand for Muse for sure.

I specified European tour, not UK tour. They did a decent sized European tour in 2012 - they just happened to only play 3 dates in the UK.

Question been asked a few times and from what Ive seen, noise regulations etc rule out big shows on the thursday

The Friday is the one that's looking most likely at the moment. I'd say Saturday is the least likely as they're not exactly TV friendly now.
