I cant justify the white vinyl and the special ed from WASTE. Ben - have the limited edition vinyl.

Do people listen to their limited editions btw? I had this convo with someone earlier and I'm in the camp of if I own it I will listen to it! But others keep it sealed for value reasons.

No freakin' way!

Forgive my strong opinions on this one, but people who buy things designed to be played and don't play them, keep them sealed, look at them as investments...argh! Life's too short!

I'm a bit of a fan of coloured vinyl, having now decided that it's rare these days for the vinyl pressing to be compromised. True, they're rarely on 180g, which has the heft to sit nicely on the turntable, and feels so nice, but some of my favourite pressings of recent years are coloured, clear etc.

When the pre-order dropped on Sunday I assumed that our vinyl choices were your lovely special edition and the 2 x 180g black. Silly of me really, since the trend is for more and more seemingly exclusive pressings, only for another to emerge a couple of days later. I was really excited to grab the red/maroon version of the new Explosions in the Sky. YES! I thought. Two days later there were at least three other, different vinyl 'exclusives' available, including a fetching blue pair from UK indies that would have saved me US postage from Temporary Residence!!!

Saw the white AMSP mentioned on a mailshot I get twice a week from Sly Vinyl, but having already pulled the trigger on the black one, and with seemingly no copies available on a bit of an online look, I'd written it off. Also, of all non-black vinyl, white is, aesthetically, my least favourite! Then I see the link on here tonight and I start the quest again.

Anyhoo, it would seem that I have managed to secure one, my pal is happy to take the black one of my hands, AND the album is bloody fantastic. Win, and quite literally, win.

:)

Edit - if you order and take the 'last' copy and I don't get mine, I will find you and I will kill you.

Bollocks. Hippocratic oath and all that jazz.

Love,

Galen

Why the bloody hell would you buy a record and not listen to it?

I'll admit I've done it with not one, but 2 CD boxsets, as I mentioned on the LCD thread.

But it's CDs. So that's different surely.

Have there been any rumours about Roundhouse support?

i don't think so. the closer it gets the more i'm thinking the rumour of their two sets could be true (that was a rumour right and not just something i/somebody else brought up as being an awesome idea?)

I always play any vinyl, the whole point of buying them is to have the physical love for music there. To put something physical on the player, needle down and then having a look over artwork is the whole reason I buy things. The reason I wanted the special edition is for the art book.

I'm the person who would rip open a box of an limited comic toy. I'm happy with my art book, so long as my vinyl plays

I don't want stuff that's worth money, I want to enjoy the stuff I buy!

My Radiohead friends are limited and are only into downloads. A lot of them are in the Radiohead are boring club despite never giving an album a listen all the way through. So when you mention the new version of true love waits upsets you and gives you goosebumps they think your mental!

After giving the album more listens, I now love true love waits - more so then the other version. It seems more heartbreaking now then previous versions. And the fact they feel like now is the time it deserves a recording, says a lot for me!

Think of a really hyped record that you know sold out quickly. Then go online and look to buy it on vinyl. Then find ads for copies that are 'Mint. Still in original cellophane. Never played.'

Then dab your eyes which, by now, are watering at the asking price...

woffy, i got that spiritualized foil pill packet thing when the original album came out. Not your limited thing, admittedly, with the 12 discs, but still remember being blown away with it, all the details, the medicine type instructions in the box, the sticker on the box, all incredibly well designed. Lovely thing.

Now that's interesting. For I risk TOTAL self-contradiction by admitting that I have looked at the blister pack many times and wondered if I'd ever have played them. It was almost as if Jason was fucking with your head off the record as well as on it! They were great on Park last year...sighs...

I opened the single disc album I bought of course.

J.Pierce/Spaceman basically spunked all his cash away putting that out.

Think he made a shed load back on the black anniversary version though.

But, yeah, it's real purrdy.

Same. It was lovely, although I remember repeatedly cursing J Spaceman for his less than sturdy packaging. Mine got pretty tatty rather quickly, not helped by being carted back and forth to uni with a ton of other CDs - kids of today don't know they're born!

Listened to it a few times over the last 2 days. Not digging Desert Island Disk really... But the rest is pretty good. Going to have to listen to it quite a lot more, I reckon it'll be a massive grower. Instant favourites are Ful Stop, Identikit & The Numbers.

That 'broken hearts' bit in the middle of Identikit has to be the most feel-good bit of music they've ever recorded.

Present Tense is the best song on this, I just can't stop listening to it. This Bossa Nova groove is ridicolous! I didn't expect them to take this route at all, but it's brilliant. Only thing I'm not sure about is those vocal delays in certain lines ('keep it moving...')
