Radiohead touring in 2016

2nd listen confirms to me how much I love A Moon Shaped Pool. Every track is a stand out to me. I also love that there are now two officially released versions of True Love Waits. Both of which I love as much as the other. What an album...

I'm now starting to think it could be Thom, since that's one of the songs he's been playing acoustically.  But nowhere near as cleanly as on the record, so perhaps he's been playing someone else's part?

It always surprises me how much guitar the singer plays, considering there are two other guitarists in the band.

I'm personally weighing up which vinyl version to go for. My heart says special edition but my wallet an impatience says the normal £20 one.

The thought of them doing a 2011 and playing a secret set almost completely made up of a new album wasn't interesting me at all! I watched from the hill in 2011 and found it boring and I've never got into King of limbs at all.

should they want to showcase this however it would be the absolute must be at event of the festival

the fact that this album is so huge sounding makes me think it'd be rather hard for them to pull of a secret set like that this time round, along with the fact that their 2011 was one of the reasons for those secret sets ending. to me it's Pyramid (or Other) set or nothing

My first impression was that it was a very intimate sounding album and was wondering how it would translate on a huge stage like the pyramid, but I suppose it's radiohead and everyone gets something totally different from listening to them.

it's quite slow tempo, but when it kicks in with the string sections etc it sounds huge with a lot of things going on. TKOL was all glitchy electronics which can be replicated easily live - this material sounds like it'd require a fair few more people on stage playing other instruments unless they just wanted to do stripped down versions/have a backing track, which would be a bit disappointing. some of the bigger numbers from here (Burn the Witch, Identikit, The Numbers) + old material and i doubt they'd have a problem filling those big stages. i mean, they've got a load of festivals lined up - guess we'll see how they go down soon enough

album cover is some mutated map of the world.

It's in the lyrics - it's in the backing vocals of Identikit (listen closely to the first 30 seconds, it's somewhere there).

Thanks for the info, that makes more sense now. I haven't had the chance to listen to the lyrics closely but Identitkit is my favourite track so far and I'll pay more attention to the lyrics now!

Haven't heard it obviously, but just from looking, you put the 3 most upbeat songs in the album (BTW, Identikit, Ful Stop) right after another... Glass Eyes to the ending sound like it would be the most quiet/depressing run ever.

Absolutely love it, haven't always been a huge fan of their softer electronic stuff but this feels like the perfect mix between that and their old more guitar driven albums.

the only song that's tracklist placing seems a bit off to me is Daydreaming - just seems a bit odd to have such a gentle song as the second track and sticking it midway makes far more sense. other than that it all works, even if ordering it alphabetically is an odd choice

I actually changed it to be second to last! Works really well with True Love Waits coming after it.

I think it works great alphabetically. The only song that doesn't seem to fit is Burn the Witch, and honestly I can't fit it anywhere even though it's great.

I've just had my first listen of AMSP (I thought last eve was going to be fraught with interruptions). There's a lot to digest, but blimey. I'm always unnerved when something so anticipated sounds accessible first time, often the hallmark of something that won't evolve much with repeated listens. I don't have that worry here. When the string section kicks in on The Numbers, oh my god, absolutely hair raising - what a tune!

While that's true for a lot of it, there's still a good selection of great tracks that I reckon are ideal for a festival crowd. Burn the Witch, Identikit, The Numbers and even True Love Waits are all huge tracks that would absolutely stomp at a festival imo.

No, I dont think so. But it is very good.

I have to admit to being in the "true love waits is not as good as it used to be" camp. I'd love to know their reason for adding it to this album.

Nigel said that they'd attempted to record it for albums many times but just never felt like they'd found the right arrangement for it. i guess they finally thought they'd nailed it down

interestingly enough somebody on reddit has pointed out that of their recorded output, True Love Waits is their 100th song (12 on Pablo Honey, 12 on The Bends (24), 12 on OK Computer (36), 10 on Kid A (46), 11 on Amnesiac (57), 14 on Hail to the Thief (71), 10 on In Rainbows (81), 8 on The King of Limbs (89) and 11 on A Moon Shaped Pool (100). could be a coincidence, but knowing Radiohead, probably not. a good choice for the occasion
